The Residue Lab Analyst position is a full time, temp to hire position in Santa Maria, CA. Hours are from 2pm to 11pm/12am Tuesdays through Fridays, and 9am to 6pm on Saturdays. The rate of pay is between $22 and $24/Hr (DOE).

Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform routine pesticide residue testing and analysis of foods and environmental samples

Utilize analytical techniques and instrumentation such as tandem mass spectrometers in gas and liquid chromatography, single quadrupole mass spectrometers, and other specific detectors

Perform calibration and maintenance on instruments to ensure it is operating within set guidelines

Handle chemicals such as solvents and acids in sample extractions and reagent preparation.

Prepare chemical reagents and pesticide solutions as required in the analysis.

Resolve/separate, identify and quantify unknowns and target compounds accurately by utilizing available instrumentation

Verify and validate new analytical methods especially for non-routine work

Execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test methods.

Follow & perform Quality Control (QC) procedures - run QC samples as described in the QC schedule.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field

Knowledge of LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC

Excellent Math and computer skills

Excellent organizational and analytical skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to multitask

Ability to lift 35 pounds

Clean DMV record

Open and flexible work schedule, including late evenings, weekends and/or overtimes
