Summary of Job Details
Under the general supervision of the Brain Imaging Center Director, supports funded research for brain image scanning in the UCSB Brain Imaging Center (BIC) which uses Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology on human participants. Responsibilities include all aspects of on-site scheduling studies and coordinating center activities, critical safety training to lab users and ensurance of compliance for all research protocols. Coordinates all lab, department, campus and EH&S safety policies and practices. Utilizes knowledge of the experiments being conducted and experimental protocols, analyzes and makes determinations about the safety and appropriateness of human subjects and their participation in various experiments and identifies the potential for adverse reactions and risk to human subjects in each case. There are significant negative consequences to human participants and the research being conducted if mistakes are made in this position.
Other duties include ordering research related supplies and completing compliance paperwork and billing for fMRI recharges. Secondary duties include human subject recruitment, in-depth screening, analysis and selection, and oversight of human subject research participants for various experiments using fMRI studies and EEG. Facilitates the set-up, running, trouble-shooting, and data collection for various experiments conducted by grad students, faculty and other researchers in department and from across campus.
Required Qualifications
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Must be sensitive regarding confidential information and exercise good judgment regarding such information.
Must be professional, service-oriented, and be able to work with a variety of customers in a fast-paced environment.
Special Conditions of Employment
Occasional evening hours may be required.
Satisfactory conviction history background check

Days/Hours: M-F; variable hours within 8am - 5pm, with occasional evenings.
