Financial Aid Office - Operation

Summary of Job Details

Supervises staff in the Advisor unit. Responsible for annual performance evaluations; recommends merit salary increases; takes action in response to complaints and resolves grievances; trains subordinates and student staff; assigns tasks and monitors the quality and completeness of assigned work; establishes daily and weekly work schedules. As part of the management team, participates in the overall planning, development, implementation and coordination of all phases of the federal, state and university financial aid programs. Works with staff to ensure that services are delivered to students within the parameters of the federal, state, and university regulations. Maintains fluency in the business rules of our software programs as they apply to internal applications as well as to external exports. Oversees staff's coordination and administration of the major aid programs like Athletic/ University Scholarships, Undergraduate Resource Reporting, and Education Abroad Program) as well as a number of minor programs (Consortiums, Teacher Education Program, and UCDC that interact with and affect aid eligibility. Responsible for developing processes and procedures that insures the efficiency of financial aid delivery to students including participating in decisions on staffing levels and major purchases for the units. Resolves student appeals and has authority to make exceptions. Participates in the overall planning and administration of financial aid office including the establishment of office policies and procedures. Represents the financial aid office and the University of California, Santa Barbara in the absence of the Director. Represents that financial aid office in presentations to prospective, new, and continuing UCSB students and their families.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Two years financial aid experience, extensive financial aid knowledge, strong analytical and communication skills, supervisory experience, knowledge of campus policy and regulations, and ability to analyze and interpret data

Demonstrated strong communication skills and ability to work with frequent interruptions while paying close attention to detail

Experience using complex databases

Special Conditions of Employment

Satisfactory criminal history background check

Mandated reporting requirements of Child Abuse

Seasonal periodic mandatory overtime and occasional evenings and weekends required
