Summary: Our vision is for our children and youth, by the time they graduate from high school, to be committed followers of Jesus Christ, knowledgeable in the Bible, experienced in mission work and service to (and with) the congregation, growing as worshipers and as followers of Jesus who love God and love their neighbors. The Children’s Ministry Director will be the director of this ministry and report to the Pastor. In addition to leading the children of the congregation, the Children’s Ministry Director will provide Sunday school leadership for children grades K-5.

The Children’s Ministry Director will work collaboratively with the Session (board of elders) and other staff and will direct children’s ministry volunteers to realize this vision. The Children’s Ministry Director will continue to grow as a follower of Jesus and maintain physical and emotional health.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership Development:

Recruit, train, encourage and lead teams of adult volunteers in children’s ministry.

Disciple student leaders to grow in their leadership and ministry skills.

Ministry Programming:

Plan and lead weekly Sunday school for ages 3 (potty-trained) and up.

Provide children’s ministry during the weekly adult small group.

Plan and lead occasional activities for fun and spiritual growth with children and their families.

Plan and lead annual Vacation Bible School, including all budgeting.

Plan, organize, recruit, and facilitate annual Santa Breakfast.

Plan and facilitate fundraising activities for Children’s Ministry.

Lead Preschool Chapel once a week.

Pastoral:

Build a personal relationship with every child and their family.

Work with Pastor to respond to family crisis needs.

Attend Sunday service once a month (with volunteers leading Sunday School), so as to develop a presence and rapport with the congregation.

Outreach:

Make Sunday morning contact & follow up with new children and their families.

Flexible: Work front desk at Little Steps Christian Preschool 4-6 hours per week during drop-off and/or pick-up times.

Connection, Communication, and Support:

Meet regularly with the Pastor and staff for planning, study, and prayer.

Communicate with Session via monthly report.

Coordinate all announcements of children’s ministry activities .

Hours: 10-12 hours per week (more when there are large events like VBS, Santa Breakfast, etc.)

Approximate breakdown of hours:

Sunday school with ages 3 (potty-trained) and up on Sunday mornings, including prep time (3 hours)

Children’s ministry during weekly adult small group, including prep time (4 hours)

Plan and lead occasional fun activities for families (0-5 hours)

Regular meetings with staff and pastor (1-2 hours)
