Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Grinder/Cold Mill Operator to join our paving and roadwork team. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment to grind and remove asphalt from roadways in preparation for resurfacing. The ideal candidate will have experience with milling machines, understand roadway grinding operations, and possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to haul the grinder/cold mill to and from job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate cold milling machines to remove asphalt and prepare surfaces for repaving.
Set and adjust milling machine controls, including drum depth, speed, and conveyor operations.
Monitor milling depth and material removal to meet project specifications.
Transport the grinder/cold mill to and from job sites using a commercial vehicle.
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure proper function.
Work closely with ground crew, paver operators, and project managers to ensure smooth operations.
Adhere to all safety protocols, including traffic control regulations and job site safety procedures.
Identify and address potential hazards, obstacles, and underground utilities before milling.
Maintain clear communication with team members using hand signals, radios, or other communication methods.
Qualifications:
Experience operating asphalt milling/grinding equipment.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required to transport equipment.
Understanding of road construction processes and asphalt removal techniques.
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and ability to adjust for grade and depth accuracy.
Knowledge of equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle physical demands.
