Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work with the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) team as the Guided Pathways Specialist I.

LTCC is proud to be designated a HSI by the United States Department of Education. The mission of an HSI is to assist with strengthening institutional programs, facilities, and services to expand educational opportunities for Hispanic Americans and other underrepresented populations.

The goals of the HSI STEM systems of support are to enhance the quality of undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and to increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of Latino/a/x and other underrepresented student groups pursuing associate or baccalaureate degrees in STEM fields. Students at LTCC who are majoring in Math, Computer Information Sciences, Cybersecurity, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Geography, Geology, and other STEM-related programs can benefit from the supports HSI STEM provides. HSI provides support to STEM students through participation in our LTCC STEM Academy, Student Success Teams, working with STEM faculty on ways to improve instruction, opportunities to explore STEM career paths through Work-Based Learning, tutoring, individual one-on-ones with our Retention Specialist, and referrals to other services on campus. The Guided Pathways Specialist will be central to the work of integrating effective student support and retention practices within all Meta Majors, and embedding Guided Pathways through collaboration with and support for Guided Pathways faculty leads. HSI supports the classroom efforts so students reach their goals, and HSI can also connect students with relevant resources on campus that will support them on their path to completion.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Interviews will be scheduled on an ongoing basis and are generally conducted by a committee of approximately 3-5 individuals. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

COMPENSATION:

Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $46,986 to $51,879 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $60,160 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay. This position may qualify for the telecommute pilot program, which allows employees the opportunity to telecommute for up to 20% of the work week.

Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability. Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 27% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.

Work-Life Balance: This position is 40 hours per week and 12 months per year, including summer and winter hours. Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, generally within the hours of 8 am to 5 pm, hours may vary according to the needs of the program. This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt).

LTCC provides a generous leave package including 17 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days sick leave per year. Furthermore, LTCC has made a commitment to full closures during holiday breaks and several weekends adjoining holidays to provide employees the ability to take advantage of holiday and vacation usage.

Description

Definition:

Under the direction of an assigned Director or Administrator, perform a full range of duties under general supervision which involves specialized assignments. Position works independently, exercising initiative within general guidelines in performing the full range of duties assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

A Specialist is trained or highly skilled in a particular subject(s). This is the entry-level class in the Specialist series under general supervision of a director or administrator within a department or division. Position performs a full range of duties under general supervision which involves specialized assignments. Position works independently, exercising initiative within general guidelines in performing the full range of duties assigned. Impact on students, financial, physical, or personnel resources is generally department or division wide with possible external connections.

Representative Duties:

Perform a variety of specialized duties in the development, planning and implementation of designated Program functions and services in support of day-to-day operations including the coordination of program component functions; assist in establishing program time lines, goals and objectives; assure compliance with established standards, guidelines, requirements, policies and procedures of an assigned program.

Plan, organize and perform a variety of administrative program support duties; input student, program and a variety of other data into an assigned computer system; establish and maintain various automated records and files; prepare and maintain reports, correspondence, memorandum, and other written documents for an assigned program; review and edit materials for accuracy; assist with special projects related to designated programs as assigned.

Serve as an area expert for program participants, students and others concerning assigned services and functions; interpret, apply and explain program services, policies and procedures to students, staff, other schools and outside agencies; respond to inquiries and provide detailed information and feedback concerning related programs; provide assistance in response to changing Program needs.

Compile, assemble, duplicate, maintain and disseminate a variety of informational materials related to assigned programs, services and functions; accept, process and evaluate a variety of program applications, forms and documents.

Prepare and deliver oral presentations concerning assigned program services and related functions as assigned.

Research, gather, compile and collate statistical information and other data as directed.

Maintain current knowledge of program and organizational laws, rules, regulations and policies.

Communicate with staff, other departments and outside agencies to exchange information, resolve issues and coordinate activities.

Train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned staff and student aides as required.

Attend and participate in a variety of meetings, conferences and in-service trainings; serve as a member on committees as assigned; schedule and coordinate appointments with staff, students and faculty.

Guided Pathways Option Class:

Assist the Director of Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Grant in the implementation of the Guided Pathways framework and the coordination of Student Success Teams (SSTs). Specifically, the Guided Pathways Specialist will be responsible for coordinating SST meetings for five meta majors. Student Success Teams are comprised of faculty, counselors, instructional deans, and other key staff, and implementing cohort-based programs designed to improve enrollment, retention, and completion. The Guided Pathways Specialist will coordinate meetings, ensure communication, and support the Director in the facilitation of SSTs. The Guided Pathways Specialist will also support meta major related events and activities. The Guided Pathways Specialist will work directly with students to: Create channels for frequent and consistent communication to students (text, email, phone, etc.); Establish systems for regular contact with students, which may include one-on-one case management and/or group sessions; Maintain regular contact with students to enter and stay in their meta major pathway; Coordinate and participate in regular SST meetings and ensure communication across SST members; Ensure management of student contact systems (Cranium Café, Colleague, Canvas, etc.); Develop and deliver messages (text, email, Canvas posts, etc.) related to student programs, needs or events; Collaborate with instruction and student services to provide integrated student support.
