Machine Shop Assistant

The Machine Shop Assistant will play a critical role in supporting the efficient operation of the machine shop. This position is responsible for managing inventory, driving to pick up parts and supplies, and assisting the Machine Shop Manager with various tasks to ensure smooth workflow and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Inventory Management:

Maintain accurate inventory records of tools, materials, and supplies.

Conduct regular inventory audits and report discrepancies to the Machine Shop Manager.

Ensure the proper storage and organization of inventory items.

Monitor inventory levels and work with purchasing to reorder supplies as needed to prevent shortages.

2. Parts Pickup and Delivery:

Drive company vehicle to pick up parts and materials from suppliers.

Ensure timely and safe delivery of parts to the machine shop.

Maintain a log of all trips, including details of parts picked up and delivered.

3. Assistance to Machine Shop Manager:

Help with the preparation of work orders and ensure they are completed on time.

Support the Machine Shop Manager in coordinating daily activities and workflow.

Assist with the maintenance of machinery and equipment.

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the shop

Conduct facility safety checks to ensure a safe and organized work environment.

4. General Support:

Assist machinists with basic tasks as needed, including material handling and machine operation.

Provide support during production peaks and assist with special projects.

Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Previous experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment is preferred.

Basic knowledge of inventory management practices.

Ability to operate basic hand and power tools.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Able to stand/walk for the majority of the shift

Able to regularly lift and move material up to 50lbs of weight

Able to regularly use hands and wrists to tighten, twist and secure items
