Job Summary:Manages all aspects of large scale and/or multi-center research projects. Large project usually is multi-year, with a budget in excess of 200k annually and hundreds of participants at multiple sites, or involve highly complex data collection on a smaller number of participants. Resolves policy, research design and administrative issues and problems.Dr. Paola Gilsanz’s cognitive health research team is seeking an enthusiastic, communicative, and detail-oriented individual to provide day to day project management and supervision for one or more large scale research projects. The Project Manager (PM) will support front-end operational administrative, recruitment, and interviewing activities for The Study of Healthy Aging in African Americans (STAR) and at least one other protocol. We are committed to building a diverse team that reflects the participant populations of our studies. The ideal candidate will be someone committed to furthering research in ethnically and racially diverse aging populations and, in particular, the Black community in the Oakland and Berkeley area. The PM will work in the office (not a virtual position) fulltime during regular business hours. The office will be relocating to Pleasanton, CA at the end of April 2024 Essential Responsibilities:

Responsible for the day-to-day management/operations of large scale research projects. Supervises project coordinators, research associates/assistants, as well as hiring, disciplinary and termination decisions. Prepares grant proposals with the investigator for submission. May coordinate the work of programmers/analysts.

Prepares, manages and balances budgets on projects. Responsible for collection of data and conducting data analysis. Prepares progress reports independently and collaboratively. May co-authors scientific papers with the investigator for publication. Interacts with national study sites, such as project officers, state and federal agencies, research teams from other organizations.

Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. At any time, Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions, or to change such positions from salaried to hourly pay status. Such changes are generally implemented only after notice is given to affected employees.

Secondary Functions:This is an in office position and the Division of Research will be moving to Pleasanton, CA by the end of April, 2024.This is for 1-2 years. Continuation is contingent upon contract/grant funding.Basic Qualifications:Experience

Minimum seven (7) years of experience in one or more of the technical areas required.

Education

Bachelors degree required, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:

Demonstrate knowledge of research principles, design and strategies, bio-statistical analyses and data interpretation.

Able to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses.

Must demonstrate effective communication, consulting, interpersonal and project management skills.

Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in public health, health care administration, epidemiology or other related field OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field preferred.

· Experience with directly supervising staff.

· Ability to maintain meticulous organization of study documents.

· Demonstrate strong relationship building skills, adjusting style and approach to a variety of different populations: study participants, members of the research team, and other stake holders. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability balance and prioritize competing responsibilities.

· The ideal candidate will be someone committed to furthering research in ethnically and racially diverse aging populations and, in particular, the Black community in the Oakland and Berkeley area. Demonstration of cultural humility including the ability to understand and effectively respond to cultural differences and to value diversity among all peoples.

· Understanding of all phases of research in the health care setting is ideal but is not required if the candidate has other relevant experience working with the Oakland community and/or relevant project management experience.

· Ability to read and comprehend detailed protocols, correspondence, & memos.

· Familiarity with data management software and working in a Microsoft Windows/Office environment.
