Seeking experienced wood-worker (minimum one year), background in fine art crating strongly preferred. We are a small but growing fine art services company, providing crating, shipping, installation and storage of fine art to collectors, galleries and museums. The right candidate will undergo several weeks of close training before taking on the role of lead crate builder under the supervision of our general manager.
Responsibilities:
build high-quality custom shipping crates for paintings and sculpture
pack artwork according industry standards and client specifications
manage release of crates to shippers and trucking companies
reliable record-keeping, including release info, packing lists and bills of lading
safe operation of tools
daily shop clean-up and tool maintenance
Essential qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge of shop tools (table saw, chop saw, routers, air compressors, etc) a must.
Strong attention to detail, punctuality, efficiency and accountability essential.
Familiarity with the care and handling of fine art strongly preferred, including crate designs for local and international shipping.
Additional qualifications:
Knowledge of art installation, packing and logistics extremely helpful.
Administrative skills including crate layouts, estimates, ordering materials and record keeping.
Shop maintenance, tool repair, etc.
