The program room aide will attend to members’ personal care needs, lead/assist with program room activities and maintain proper safety & cleaning standards. Personal care needs include toileting assistance, mealtime assistance, socialization & ambulation assistance (as needed). Plan and lead structured activities with cognitively impaired seniors. Program room upkeep including washing the dishes, wiping down the tables, tidying up, watering the plants, picking up before/after activities, engaging with clients 1:1, cleaning up after lunch, filling supplies in the restroom & program room. Other duties include transporting two or three clients home in the morning or evening (as needed). Must have a clean driving record. Must have a basic understanding of dementia and be prepared to manage common behaviors (wandering, emotional outbursts, anxiety, boredom, confusion, etc.)
Other duties include: assisting the director with office work as needed and COVID-19 testing as needed
Requirements:
Willing to drive as needed
Willing to submit to a background/driving record check
Minimal experience with the elderly
Communication skills necessary for engaging in dialogue with seniors with dementia
A “team player” attitude, adaptable, trainable, patient, responsible, self-directed
Takes the initiative to complete tasks in downtime without constant direction from supervisory staff
Willing to accept supervision and constructive feedback from program director
Be in good physical health (able to do repetitive bending, push a wheelchair and lift up to 25lbs)
