Description:
The Medical Assistant (M.A.) works under the delegation of a licensed practitioner to perform duties as directed to assist in providing patient care to assigned patients. A M.A. performs all aspects of the M.A. role and is fully competent in the clinical needs/functions for assigned clinic/location of work. An M.A. is expected to perform in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations. Below are some, but not all duties performed by a medical assistant in a typical work day.
Administrative Duties:
Scheduling patient appointments
Recording and updating patient medical records and medical histories
Patient billing, collection, and bookkeeping
Insurance registration and verification
Clinical assistant duties:
Assisting physicians with patient examination
Monitoring, measuring and recording patients’ vital signs
Taking blood, nasal, pharyngeal and urine samples and preparing them for basic laboratory tests
Provision of medication and injections (under the direction of a physician)
Medication inventory
As per current Medical Board of California (MBC) standards
Required qualifications:
Graduate of accredited school for Medical Assistants or an equivalent combination of coursework, experience/training to qualify to sit for the CA State or National Certification exam
Current BLS - Must be AHA accredited (upon hire)
Preferred qualifications:
Upon hire: Active national certification/registration by AMCA, AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or NAHP as a Medical Assistant
