Chef / Kitchen Assitant $22hr

This position begins ASAP Hours to start are 4pm-12am on Wed-Fri, 11-7pm Sat & Sun.

We are the kitchen for a very busy high end bar/lounge on Ocean Blvd a few blocks from the pier.

Our menu is mexican baja, so familiarity with making guacamole, ceviche, tacos, quesadillas and also burgers would be desired.

We are looking for a Chef with EXPERIENCE, to help with the daily operations of our establishment’s kitchen. The individual we are seeking must be HANDS ON in this environment and working on the line is part of the job. This position reports to the Head Chef.

The ideal chef/cook loves being in the kitchen and loves making food! Must be confident, up front, drama free. We are looking for our next family member!

Requirements:

- 5 years minimum in a professional cooking experience - if you have more or less experience, we still want to meet you! We will hire the right person.

- Attentive, on time and reliable

- Lift up to 50lbs

- Stand for prolonged periods

- Bend, kneel, and stoop

- Preference is for open availability on Fridays and Saturdays.

Job Description:

- In charge of station, prepping and maintaining ingredients

- Following recipes

- Making and plating food to order

- Communicating with fellow cooks so all food is ready at the same time

- Ensuring every dish that leaves the kitchen is up to our standards

- Assisting with kitchen organization

- Maintaining a clean working environment

- Back-of-house side work (cleaning, stocking, organization, etc.)

- Helping other stations when yours is slow - we are a TEAM!

- Operating the POS system and taking orders if necessary.

- Taking direction from the head chef

We are a pooled tip house. .

Qualifications

SERVSAFE certification is required.

Culinary school graduate preferred but not required

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

In-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety regulations.

Ability to work well in a stressful and fast-paced environment.

Excellent problem-solving and conflict management abilities.

Outstanding communication and organizational skills. Fluent in English is a must. Spanish speaking a plus.
