The Department of Health Service (DHS) is currently recruiting to fill a position at either the I or II level, depending upon qualifications. If you are interested in applying at the II level of this opportunity, you must submit a separate application to each recruitment.

DHS is recruiting to fill a time-limited Licensed Vocational Nurse position. The time-limited position is funded through June 30, 2026. This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary or intermittent) positions as they occur during the active status of the list. Qualified county employees who wish to be considered for future positions should consider applying to this recruitment.

NOTE: A current LVN license is required for this position and must be maintained as a condition of employment in this job classification.

About the Position

The LVN within Youth and Family Services is a vital member of our healthcare team, you will play a key role in providing compassionate and quality healthcare services to the youth and families in our community. This role involves daily collaboration with LVN team members, requiring independent work and the ability to seek consultation when necessary from a team member, supervising registered nurse, manager, or psychiatrist. This position will work onsite Monday through Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, excluding County holidays. Some responsibilities include:

Administering medications and treatments as prescribed

Monitoring and documenting patient vital signs

Documenting all services provided in the electronic health record

Reporting urgent needs to child psychiatrists

Managing and administering injections

Fielding phone calls regarding medication prescriptions, refill requests, and lab work questions and concerns

Processing the step-out referral documents and overseeing the transition process for clients moving to lower levels of care

Coordinating care with primary care providers by requesting medical referrals, lab orders and results, and after-visit summaries

The ideal candidate will also possess:

Experience working with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment

Knowledge of psychiatric nursing best practices

Excellent organizational skills

A strong desire to work in the public behavioral health system of care

Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse customer base

The ability to shift gears quickly

Experience working with children and their families is a plus but not required

Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are desirable, not required
