Job Summary:
The Nevada City Elks Lodge is seeking a reliable and skilled Part-Time Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing meals for groups and events in a casual, community-focused environment. This position involves working closely with Lodge staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality food service for members, guests and clients during regular dinners, special events, and private functions.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook a variety of meals using both new and established menus.
Ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures at all times
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including equipment, utensils, and work areas
Assist with inventory control and food ordering as needed
Collaborate with event coordinators and volunteers for planning and executing Lodge functions
Set up and break down kitchen areas before and after events
Work with volunteers in a professional manner
Provide friendly, professional service to Lodge members and guests
Requirements:
Excellent customer service skills
Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a banquet, community center, or similar setting
Ability to develop food cost estimates for each meal in advance of an event
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays depending on the Lodge event schedule.
Must be dependable, punctual, and able to manage time efficiently
Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper kitchen procedures
Must be ServSafe certified or equivalent within 30 days of employment
Ability to follow standardized recipes and ensure consistency in meal production.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work Schedule:
Part-time hours will vary depending on events, typically including weekday evenings and weekends. A week would be approximately 8-10 hours.
Compensation:
Hourly rate based on experience. Some meals and Lodge perks may be included.
