Our Tucson, AZ office has an immediate opening for an Optical Engineer reporting to the Senior Engineer, Optical Systems . This is an exempt, non-supervisory, full-time position.

Primary Responsibilities: Design, models, integrates, and tests optical sensor systems including vis/EO and IR cameras, LIDAR systems, and optical test equipment. Develops test software for control of prototype EO systems, test automation, and flight testing. Works in conjunction with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers, to provide integrated design solutions for Aret's customers. Responsibilities include assisting with requirements development, concept and detailed design, presentation to customer at SRR, PDR, CDR, assembly, integration, and field testing

• Develop and apply electro-optic/imaging sensor performance models • Analyze data, algorithms, and their interaction to improve algorithm performance • Sub-system and system level testing, including test design, automation and reporting • Interact with system and sensor designers to improve hardware • Present results to other staff and customers • May support outdoor field tests with occasional travel

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics • Understanding of optical systems, light propagation, radiometry, MTF testing • Experience building medium to large applications in LabVIEW for hardware testing • Experience with scientific programming in Matlab, Python, or similar languages • Agility to work multiple potentially disparate projects simultaneously • Strong analytical skills demonstrated through in depth physics-based modeling and data analysis • Strong education in fundamental optics; including the Fourier transform, beam propagation, radiometry/Etendue, imaging, etc. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate on small teams • Intellectual curiosity and desire for continuous learning • US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

• Remote sensing systems (visible, IR, lidar) • Zemax or similar optical design software • Airborne imaging • Active security clearance
