Full Charge Bookkeeper

JOB PURPOSE:

The Full-Charge Bookkeeper processes payments, invoices, and payroll as well as establishes and maintains appropriate financial accounting and payroll records. Additionally the incumbent performs functions to support Human Resources (HR) Committee. This position works closely with Resurrection Lutheran Church’s (RLC’s) Council, Finance and Human Resources Committees.

RESPONSIBILITIES will include but not limited to:

1. Maintains accurate and up-to-date files of all financial transactions for RLC.

2. Reviews invoices to verify obligations, posts to appropriate accounts, cuts checks and coordinates with account signers.

3. Records all receipts (such as Child Development Center (CDC) tuition payments, rental payments, Thrivent Choice Dollars), posts to appropriate accounts and makes related deposits.

4. Works with Administrative Assistant to record donations made via all sources – checks, cash, ACH transfer and credit card payments.

5. Provides financial information to staff, Finance Committee, Church Council and members of the Congregation as required.

6. Processes bi-weekly payroll with ADP for RLC and CDC employees.

7. Prepares and files all reports from various agencies such as the State of Arizona, Pima County, IRS, and the Courts.

8. Coordinates with the ministry staff to ensure proper recording of receipts and disbursements prior to the preparation of the financial statements.

9. Facilitates questions regarding human resources policies and procedures, insurance programs, 401K, etc., and assists employees with insurance claims.

10. On a monthly basis:

a. Prepares monthly financial reports.

b. Processes transfers between RLC accounts.

c. Reconciles bank statements.

d. Reconciles credit card statements and verifies proper receipts have been submitted.

e. Reviews the profit and loss statement with ministry staff.

11. On an annual basis:

a. Assists in the preparation of the budget;

b. Provides support for the compilation of the annual report.

c. Works with appropriate parties to review insurance coverage on an annual basis to ensure the policies are meeting needs.

d. Prepares for and cooperates with those appointed to conduct the annual audit of financial records.

e. Reviews the profit and loss statement with ministry staff.

f. Works with the HR Committee to prepare for and coordinate the open enrollment process for health insurance.

12. Performs various functions to support the Human Resources (HR) Committee, such as posting positions, tracking resumes, employee file maintenance and onboarding new employees.

13 Attends Finance Committee meetings. Attends Council meetings upon request.

14. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High School diploma or GED and twelve semester hours of college coursework in Accounting. (Extensive experience may be substituted for college coursework.)

2. A minimum of three years of similar accounting experience. Experience in a church or church-related organization is desirable.

7. Proficient with Quickbooks and Microsoft Office.

8. Proficient with personal computers, calculators and common office machines.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Must be available to work variable hours including an occasional weekend and evening.

a. Employees are expected to attend either a Saturday evening service or a Sunday morning service a minimum of six (6) times a year to engage with the congregation.

b. Employees are expected to be available for services and special events during Holy Week and Christmas Week.

c. Employees are encouraged to be available for special events including but not limited to Fall Festival, Synod Assembly (when hosted by RLC) and Installations.

2. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

3. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

4. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

5. No adverse environmental conditions expected.
