Find your place in technology on #TeamAmex.How will you make an impact in this role?About API Gateways-SRE & App Support Portfolio:American Express API Gateways-SRE & App Support portfolio consists of Application Gateways such as Choreo, APIGEE, Enterprise API Gateway (EAG), and Enterprise Web Proxy (EWP). This team seeks to set the bar for these products at American Express. We back the customer journeys (CJ) through APIs by focusing on engineering aspects of Gateways platform.The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting several customer journeys at scale. As an SRE specialized for API Gateways, the candidate will play a meaningful role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of API Gateways. The ideal candidate will have a passion for automation, a keen eye for identifying and resolving performance, latency, availability and throughput related bottlenecks, and a commitment to continuous learning in the evolving field of APIs.Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with engineering teams through shared backlog to design, implement, and maintain highly scalable and reliable platforms to support API Gateways.

Drive initiatives to ensure that the platforms which supports customer journeys is highly available, scalable, and resilient.

Lead/drive Enterprise Major Incident Management (EMIM) bridge calls and conduct root-cause analysis via blameless post-mortems to prevent recurrence of incidents.

Develop automation scripts and tooling to streamline deployment, monitoring, and operational processes, to reduce manual intervention and improve efficiency.

Implement / improve end-to-end observability for customer journey APIs to gain insights into system performance and identify areas for improvement.

Acquire deep understanding of A2A, B2B and C2B use-cases within Amex, and provide guidance and mentorship to the team.

Perform capacity planning exercises and ensure high resiliency standards are implemented to support growing API volumes.

Nurture a highly collaborative, inclusive, strong cohesive and productive team passionate about accomplishing targets in timely manner in line with overall organization strategy and goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in or Engineering, Science or Technology.

4 years’ experience working as an SRE, DevOps engineer, or similar role, with focus on API Gateways.

In-depth knowledge of API Gateway technologies such as – APIGEE, Gloo Edge or similar platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

Hands-on experience on Service Mesh, Docker, Kubernetes and OpenShift technologies.

Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Dynatrace, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Fluentd and Kibana (EFK), Splunk etc.

Good understanding of pipeline-based deployments via CICD framework.

Knowledge on networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, and load balancing.

Excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve sophisticated technical issues.

Understanding of IT Service Management Processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Performance & Capacity).

Strong communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with multi-functional teams.

Hands-on experience working on technologies such as – node.js, GraphQL is a plus.

Passion for staying up to date with the latest industry trends.
