DescriptionTechnology Summer Internship Program: Data Engineer Calling all emerging technologists! Looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in the field of data engineering? The Technology Summer Internship Program is a critical program within Technology Services that helps passionate early career professionals gain real-world exposure to groundbreaking technology. Data Engineer Track Data Engineer Interns work collaboratively with Data Engineers to pursue a broad range of initiatives. By using technical skills and a thirst for innovation, interns will leverage advanced analytics and big data techniques to derive valuable insights from enterprise data and deliver those insights back to stakeholders. The Data Engineer Intern will:
Assist with implementing data integration solutions for multiple platforms in Citizens
Help build robust data pipelines to collect process and compute different metrics from various financial sources, adhering to quality and development standards
Focus on designing data stores, software engineering, and making sure data is available for those who need it
Collaborate with cross functional team members as necessary and coming up with optimal solutions that meet data demands
Execute unit test of data populated in target data container, validating expected result, and ensuring quality and accuracy
Coordinate with business users for User Acceptance Testing and with Operations team for code deployment to upper environments
Note: This Internship Program begins in early June 2024
Experience during the program
In this 10-week program, interns will gain a strong understanding of Technology Services at Citizens. This program also provides mentorship, exposure to senior leadership, and participation in a variety of activities to further develop professional skills, including:
Orientation with all Technology Services interns
Professional development workshops (such as Personal Branding and Communicating with Impact)
Social activities (such as sporting events and a bank-wide intern BBQ)
Dedicated community service activities
Life after the program
High-performing interns interested in pursuing a career in Technology Services will have an opportunity to interview for the Technology Development Program (TDP) before the summer ends. The TDP is a full-time program that helps rising professionals build a meaningful career within software, network/systems, data or cloud engineering.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or other technology-related degree
Expected graduation date of May 2025
Minimum GPA 3.0
Experience working with raw as well as prepared datasets
Understanding of master data management principles and processes
Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
Previous professional exposure to software development and/or engineering
Familiarity with ETL, ELT, Star Schema, Hadoop, Apache Spark, Beam, Flink, and/or message brokers/messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka
Understanding of the banking industry, specifically the functions of custodial and consumer banking

Hours per Week: 40
Work Schedule: M-F 8:30am - 5pm
