Evening Aurora Guide in Alaska's Arctic!

Alaska, Fairbanks, 99701 Fairbanks USA
Aplica ya

Guiding with Northern Alaska Tour Company is a high-energy position best suited to individuals who make social connections easily, who genuinely love interacting with others and who thrive in positions of responsibility.

All of our tours are ground-based, traveling into northern Alaska on the industrial road called the Dalton Highway. We use 15 passenger vans configured to carry up to 10 persons and 26 passenger coaches. We share the road with heavy trucks freighting material to Deadhorse on the Arctic Coast of Alaska to support the oil fields around Prudhoe Bay; other tour operators and work crews; and, every once in a while, independent private vehicles.

Our evening aurora guide picks up guests at hotels on their way out to our cabin located at 49 mile Elliott Highway. This is where we spend the evening with our guests searching the skies overhead for the Aurora Borealis.

Our guide will start a contained hand warming fire outside and serve hot beverages to guests, who have a cozy warm cabin to use as a place to rest, relax and thaw out during the coldest winter temperatures. Knowledge and interest in photographing the Aurora Borealis is a definite PLUS

Our guide training includes intensive Professional Vehicle Operator Training that will result in the obtaining of a class B commercial driver license and competency with CB radios and communication protocols for interacting with other Dalton Highway users. In addition, beginning guides receive instruction in tour design and in effective, professional guiding techniques. Guides will do a "ride-along" tour with a seasoned veteran and perform a "solo tour" without paying guests before going out with their first group.

Our 120+hour vehicle operator training program will begin ASAP - with flexibility to work training around a new coworker's own schedule. We are currently looking for one FULL TIME and one PART TIME guide.

Evening Aurora Guide Schedule (tours begin August 21st):

Work hours: 7:30pm - 4:30am (or later depending on road and aurora conditions)

1 to 5 days per week

9-10 hours per day [dependent upon the excursion guided]

9 to 50 hours per week [dependent upon full time or part time status]

WAGE:

$20.00/hr + Paid CDL training + gratuities

Requirements:

Professional Vehicle Operator Training for this position begins as soon as position is filled. Must be able to attain a DOT Medical card. ALL TRAINING is PAID at MINIMUM WAGE with the guides receiving a CLASS B CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsements when training is complete. Applicant does not need to hold a commercial driver's license; we will train applicant to receive a Class B commercial CDL.

Guide candidates must be 21 years of age and hold a clean driving record.
