Childcare Cook– Prepares and serves snacks and hot meals supporting CACFP for children enrolled in Benteh Early Learning Academy (BELA). Plans weekly menus, develops shopping lists, and calculates amounts of food for purchase. Organizes and cleans kitchen according to health department standards. Maintain nutritional requirements identified by supervisor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Proposes menus for daily snacks, breakfasts, and lunches on a monthly basis with nutritional content.

Prepares weekly shopping list to support approved menus.

Prepares snacks and lunches to be served on schedule identified by supervisor and CACFP guidelines.

Record the distribution of proper food measurements on a daily basis to comply with local and state (Food and Nutrition – CACFP) requirements.

Cleans and maintains kitchen area in a sanitary, safe, and organized manner as required by the health department. Documenting cleaning of kitchen appliances.

Participates in the development of outcomes, monitors assessment of those appropriate outcomes, and assists in the development of plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes.

Participates in the process for systemic review and evaluation for effectiveness of BELA’s kitchen.

Promotes positive morale and teamwork within the academy and with the MSBSD Nutrition department working for Knik Charter School, and provides exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and the community.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Minimum two (2) years of cooking experience in a large group setting with thorough knowledge of kitchen equipment operations.

Experience working with children from six (6) weeks to six (6) years of age preferred.

Food Management Certification, preferred.

Complete annual required local, state, and national professional training requirement hours in accordance with Childcare Licensing Standards, Food and nutrition – CACFP and NAEYC Program Standards.

Ability to lift and move up to sixty (60) pounds.

Must pass a state and federal background check.

Minimum of 3 references

Minimum of 21 years of age.

Valid Alaska driver’s license and be insurable under Knik Tribe’s automotive insurance, which requires the driver to be at least 21 years of age.

CPR and First Aid Certification.

General Information:

Location: 4401 E Palmer-Wasilla Hwy, Wasilla, AK 99654

Supervisor: Childcare Center Director

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week). Operating hours from 6:30am – 6:00pm M-F, scheduling hours will be an 8-hour shift supporting the needs of BELA. Childcare Cook hours will be 6:30am-2:30pm.

Salary: $22.00 – $25.00 per hour DOE/E. Plus full benefits: Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave and holidays, and retirement plan with matching contributions.
