POSITION SUMMARY:

The Housing Maintenance Technician serves as maintenance staff for the Knik Tribe Housing Program which includes the Low-Income Housing Program, the Knik Senior Housing Community, and all other KT Property. The position will assist in maintaining, improving, repairing, and managing various properties and client housing needs. Duties include repair and maintenance, contractor support, client home visits, deliveries and numerous other duties as assigned. Positive customer service skills are essential, dependability, being on time, as well as adherence to policies and procedures, are important for success in this position,

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

Serve as maintenance staff support for the KT Housing Department.

Provide skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair and remodel work for housing projects.

Assist to make competent estimates of labor, time, cost, and materials for projects.

Assist with delivery assistance for clients for various housing programs and services, including wood deliveries, snow plowing, or other needs.

Help to purchase and manage supplies and materials as needed for projects.

Provide positive communication with clients, venders, staff, and others.

Attend related training, meetings, and/or events to improve services.

Maintain orderly workspace.

Manage routine, maintenance, work order, vendor, and client files as needed.

Assist to provide report of activities periodically to Housing Director.

Perform all related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Basic knowledge of building maintenance repair.

Knowledge of KT service area.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Positive interactions with clients, vendors, staff, and others.

Prefer the ability to lift 70 pounds with appropriate assistance.

Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients.

Prefer ability to use computers and Microsoft applications.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED preferred, or demonstrated skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Valid drivers’ license issued by the State of Alaska; class A CDL preferred.

Clean driving record, with the ability to be covered under KT auto insurance policy.

Knowledge and experience in carpentry and minor home repair preferred.

Experience in roofing, painting, or drywalling preferred.

Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in the building, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, and mechanical trades.

Ability to work with a diverse population with emphasis on customer service skills.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Knowledge and experience of Knik Tribe’s Service Area and Knik Tribe’s Programs.

Adequate understanding of all Microsoft Office Applications.

Capable of basic maintenance for general office equipment and multi-line phone systems.

Must pass a criminal background check and be free of barrier crimes.

Clean driving record.

Knowledge and application of professional and ethical conduct as guided by Knik Tribal Council Personnel Manual Section 8.1.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Location: Housing Department – 1831 W Nicola Ave, Wasilla, AK 99654

Supervisor: Housing Project Supervisor

Schedule: Monday – Friday. 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Full-time (40 hrs/week), full-year position.

Salary: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour DOE/E. Plus full benefits: Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave and holidays, and retirement plan with matching contributions.
