ExemptGeneral FunctionThe Assistant Director, Student Engagement – Involvement supervises and coordinates the activities of fraternity and sorority chapters at the University. The Assistant Director, Student Engagement – Involvement serves as the advisor to various fraternity and sorority life chapters, councils, and committees. The Assistant Director, Student Engagement – Involvement supervises the Coordinator of Co-Curricular Involvement, which manages the overall support for student organizations, including registration, advisor training, and organizational development programs.Description of Primary Duties
Provides overall advisement, training, and support of the recognized fraternities and sororities on campus.
Assists in the development of a responsible fraternity and sorority community through advising governing councils and committees.
Supervises a professional staff member(s), graduate assistants(s), and student worker(s).
Assists in establishing and/or maintaining the position of the fraternity and sorority community within the collegial environment by ensuring their understanding of and compliance with all University policies, the Student Code of Rights and Responsibilities, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Governance Statement, as well as municipal, state, and federal laws.
Assists the Office of Student Conduct in upholding the Fraternity and Sorority Governance Statement and administering the fraternity and sorority conduct process when necessary.
Provides positive guidance and mentoring for student members of the fraternity and sorority community by developing a collaborative relationship with and supporting faculty and staff advisors, alumni advisors, volunteers, and general headquarters staff.
Provides regular feedback to fraternity and sorority chapters by administering the annual feedback meetings and fraternity and sorority life awards processes.
Coordinates educational programming related to leadership, risk management, etc., including the annual fraternity and sorority life leadership retreat.
Promotes a positive image of the University by assisting the Office of Student Engagement in the planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of major University-wide special events and leadership programs and assists with other staff-initiated programs.
Manages financial resources, within budget limits, in accordance with University guidelines under the guidance and supervision of the Associate Director, Student Engagement by planning, developing, and monitoring the departmental budget.
As a member of the Office of Student Engagement serves as a general advisor to all campus student organizations.
Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Associate Director of Student Engagement.
Supports the overall operation of the Plaster Student Union and contributes to the
department’s success by performing all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable QualificationsEducation: A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree in Educational Administration, College Student Personnel, or other related field is preferred.Experience: At least one year of experience with social Greek letter organizations in a leadership capacity is required; direct advisory experience is preferred. Experience supervising full-time staff is preferred.Skills: Excellent organizational abilities, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated problem-solving ability is required. Computer literacy is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.Other: The scope of the position frequently requires attendance at evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, seminars, and workshops.Additional QualificationsLink to Job Description
