Provide outdoor focused recreation and educational activities to promote a sense of adventure, respect for the environment and to enhance the quality of life for Sheridan College students and staff.

Reports To Ann Storey

Education/Qualifications

  • Good Conduct and Academic Standing with the college

  • Sheridan College Student currently enrolled

  • Cumulative GPA is 2.0 or greater
  • Adult CPR/AED and First Aid Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Previous outdoor leadership, equipment use, and trip experience.
  • Outgoing, energetic, comfortable with public speaking and leading groups.
  • Highly organized and able to work without direct supervision.
  • Enthusiasm for student activities and leading experiences for others.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about Sheridan County and surrounding area outdoor destinations.
  • Awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25lbs.
  • Late night, weekend and school break hours may be required.
  • Working outside in various weather conditions including: rain, snow, cold, heat, high altitude, mountainous terrain.

Job Duties

These are the job duties for required of the position.

Percentage of time 100%

Responsibility/Duty

  • Staff the Innominate House (IH): provide a friendly, upbeat and customer service-oriented environment at all times.
  • Assist IH guests with gear rental including choosing the appropriate gear for their needs, sizing and proper gear use.
  • Accurately use gear tracking process, including fee payments, recovering late or lost gear.

  • Inventory, re-stock, repair and maintain all equipment. Responsible for knowing how to operate and/or utilize all gear.
  • Learn about local destinations and outdoor activities to inform and educate IH guests.
  • Assist in marketing and promotion of Campus Recreation Programs including recruiting participants.
  • Plan, organize and oversee special events. Includes purchasing supplies, advertising and engaging with/teaching participants.
  • Correctly track and report participants, gear usage, IH visitors and other data for the Outdoor Recreation program.
  • Assist in evaluation of program effectiveness, surveys, learning outcomes and measurements of participants.
  • Serve as an ambassador for experiential learning and outdoor programs across campus.
  • Required to attend all trainings and meetings as scheduled. Includes pre-employment training in August before school starts, professional development at least one time per month and diversity, equity and inclusion training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
