    Duties

    Summary

    Employees will work as part of the roads division within facility management.

    Temporary 1039: Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (6 months) in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for this position is April/May through September/October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 26, 2020.

    Responsibilities

    • Operate motor vehicles (primarily ? ton or ? ton pickup trucks) over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions to deliver equipment and supplies.
    • Assists higher graded Maintenance Workers in the performance of trades work to maintain roads, buildings and grounds.
    • Performs maintenance and labor tasks associated with buildings and grounds maintenance.
    • Performs flagging for road construction or maintenance projects.
    • Assists with road maintenance activities including shoveling, raking, painting signs, striping parking lots and roads, and debris removal.
    • May occasionally perform other general laborer duties to include: washing vehicles and equipment; loading and unloading supplies by hand or with forklifts or loader; and sign installation.

    • U.S. Citizenship required. Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Must be at least 18 years old by enter on duty date.
    • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
    • Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
    • Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
    • Driver's License: must submit (in State sealed envelope directly from the State authorities), at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

    Rehire: Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years provided the employee does not exceed 1039 hours in their service year and has achieved an acceptable level of performance.

    Relocation: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

    Physical Effort: Work requires standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.

    Working Conditions: The majority of the work is performed outdoors. The incumbent is required to operate equipment in all types of weather conditions and on a variety of road surfaces. Subject to noise, vibration and exhaust fumes from equipment and vehicles.
