The Residence Life Assistant Directors are responsible for the programs and services which support student learning and success, and actively engage students in their residence hall experience. This includes assisting with the development and implementation for the residence education curriculum, Residence Life student conduct policies and procedures, crisis management, and administrative processes such as hall openings, closings, and summer housing operations.Responsibilities 35% Leadership and Supervision

Supports the university’s educational mission and value for diversity through the development, implementation, and evaluation of resident housing operating policies, procedures, and programs to promote an inclusive environment for all Residence Life students, staff, guests, and partners.

Evaluates and promotes short- and long-term existing strategies and makes recommendations for program enhancements.

Assists with the oversight of the unit budgets which includes Residence Education and Residence Hall Association.

Triages and responds to emergency situations according to established policies and procedures in partnership with emergency personnel and law enforcement if necessary.

Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of 3 Area Coordinators.

Supervises indirectly 6 student Community Assistants and approximately 75 student Residence Assistants.

Cultivates and maintains effective working relationships with the Dean of Students Office, University Police, Risk Management, Emergency Management, Counseling Services, Student Success, Student Involvement, and other campus departments.

Meets regularly one-on-one with individual staff members.

Contributes to and supports the professional development and training of all Residence Life staff.

Builds collaborative relationships by interacting with parents/supporters, students, and university personnel as well as participating in university functions and committees, as requested.

Participates and contributes to department meetings, including Residence Life central staff, Area Coordinators, and department-wide meetings.

Represents Residence Life on university committees as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Residence Life Director for Community and Student Development or other university administrators.

30% Residence Life Student Conduct

Recommends Residence Life student conduct policy revisions and assists in the communication of policies to residence hall students.

Executes Residence Life student conduct processes and ensures that community standards are upheld.

20% Residence Education

Assists in the development and implementation of community development, residence education curriculums, other student engagement initiatives that support the university and Residence Life missions and learning outcomes.

Advises Residence Hall Association or Resident Assistant Advisory Board, and other residence hall-affiliated student groups.

Applies initiatives that support efforts to transition new students effectively to the university and that enhance civility and civic engagement in the residence halls.

Supports programs and initiatives that enhance diversity efforts and support inclusiveness of all students.

15% Administration

Assists with residence hall opening and closing procedures, in collaboration with the Residence Life Director for Business Operations and Facilities.

Manage the room move process by confirming potential room options and collaborate with Area Coordinators to execute room moves.

Supports summer housing for camps and conferences by managing check-ins and check-outs, summer RA staffing, cleaning of rooms, and other operational items.

Provides support for student Community Assistants and Resident Assistants personnel records and payroll.

Coordinates

Assists in the development of various departmental publications and provides feedback for updating the residence hall contract and departmental websites.

Implements training of risk management, safety and security, and emergency response policies and procedures for the residence halls.

Responds to after-hours emergency calls from hall staff and others.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Qualifications Required:

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or related field

Minimum of 3 years post bachelor’s experience in Student Affairs

Experience in student development, residence hall community building, and student recruitment and retention

Experience in student conduct, student individual rights, and upholding community standards

Experience in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student or professional staff

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, direction, and management for initiatives and comprehensive programs

Excellent decision-making, organizational, task-management, and interpersonal skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various constituencies, including parents, students, colleagues, and administrators

Qualifications Preferred:

Experience working with Maxient or similar comprehensive conduct management software system
