MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Facilities Technician in the Administration Division. Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, you will help maintain the headquarters and laboratory buildings, including the maintenance of carpeted and tiled floors and the removal of trash and recyclables. You will also assist with office moves and reorganizations, sorting of mail, and verifying the level of supplies needed to perform custodial functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clean the headquarters and laboratory buildings, including the removal of trash and recyclables, room setup, furniture moves, and plant watering.
Clean offices, labs, locker rooms, restrooms, and floors according to departmental procedures.
Coordinate office moves and prepare conference rooms and other areas for meetings as requested.
Maintain and monitor storage of basic maintenance and cleaning supplies and notify supervisor of low inventories.
Assist in maintaining the grounds, snow removal, salting, and landscape assistance as assigned.
Perform a variety of skilled building maintenance, including repairs to doors, windows, and other building parts, and constructing and assembling furniture and other wood, metal, and plastic structures. Utilize a variety of hand tools and equipment and keep them in safe, clean, and proper working conditions.
Assist with minor repairs, such as fixing broken furniture, dismantling and installing furniture, plastering damaged walls, painting touch-up jobs, hanging pictures and shelving, office repairs, and other requests.
Support the Facilities Supervisor with plumbing and electrical diagnostics and repairs, including light bulb and ballast replacements, snaking lines, and installing toilet components. Possess basic knowledge and skill level in electrical and plumbing work.
Follow and comply with all safety standards, work rules, and regulations, and ensure completion of all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
Complete special projects and duties as requested.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Six months of job-related experience (advanced education degrees will be considered in lieu of experience).
Ability to meet expectations of internal customers.
Ability to communicate effectively with other MMSD employees.
Ability to understand and apply purchasing policies and procedures.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to operate small hand and power tools, an electric cart, shovel, snow blower, lawn mower, rake, furniture lift-mover, pressure washer, and a machine scrubber/buffer.
Valid driver's license and a good driving record at time of application and throughout employment.

Work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 lbs. of force and the occasional exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force.
Work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands, reaching with hands and arms, and repetitive motions. Work frequently

Sensory Requirements:
Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machinery, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Environmental Exposures:
Work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock. Work occasionally requires exposure to wet/humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high/precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to vibration, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment).
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location.
