Position: Retail Manager
Reporting to: General Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
Floor/Office Time: Expectations are to be on the floor minimum 60% plus of the time daily, and 40% or less time in the office. Office time should not be done on weekends or peak sales periods.
Primary Goal: Primary goal of this position is to drive sales, manage sales staff, and customer experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
Supervise, train and assist employees, like retail associates, in customer service, store maintenance and product promotions.
Facilitate staff development to improve customer service, productivity, and sales.
Implement cross-training of employees and Assistant Managers to maintain productivity at all times.
Hire and train as needed to ensure adequate personnel is on hand to provide outstanding customer experience.
Manage all controllable costs with a view to maintaining profitability.
Maintain accurate and visible signage for customers.
Be responsible, responsive to, and accountable to customer reviews – i.e. social media etc
Problem solving, and handling unusual circumstances.
Ensure the store and bathrooms remain clean and presentable at all times.
Prepare store and advertising displays.
Develop and meet sales targets.
Maintain proper inventory levels, ensure stocking.
Assist production with watering and merchandising when not helping customers.
Coordinate and facilitate duties and production as needed.
Social media marketing and management.
Must be able to move 35lbs.
Work with general manager on the following:
Developing and putting into place promotions centered on holiday sales and other cycles.
Seek ways to better promote the store, the product line and service within the store.
Maintain proper inventory levels, ensure stocking, implement purchasing plans and maintain contact with suppliers to ensure maximum efficiency in meeting sales goals.
Pricing and inventory control
Ordering, receiving, price changes, handling damaged products
Required Experience and Skills:
- Purchasing experience for inventory
- Plant knowledge (house plants, annuals, perennials, tropicals, natives, trees, shrubs)
- Familiarity with Square POS a bonus
Our industry is seasonal in that we ebb and flow through periods of being very busy and being slow. We find our cycle to be Slow Jan-early March, VERY BUSY End of April to Beginning of June, Slow August. The other months seem to ride in the middle, Nov-Dec we are slow, but preparing for Spring. Full-time for us is about 25-40 hrs depending on the time of the year.
