SUMMARY

Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Listens for unusual sounds from machines and equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors, machine operators, or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.

Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.

Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.

Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.

Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment. Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.

Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.

Operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.

Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or WORK EXPERIENCE

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

5+ years of electrical experience and electrical troubleshooting experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Successful completion of trade-related apprenticeship sufficient to possess valid Journeyman’s card. Maintenance Mechanic Journeyman, Industrial Electrician Journeyman.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to very loud.
