The Eau Claire City-County Health Department has an exciting opportunity for a Part Time WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) Aide. Hours for this position will vary from 24-32 per week. Find us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/eauclairehealth.

With the WIC supervisor’s support and coordination, primary duties will include:

Performing WIC functions such as intake, scheduling, and issuing WIC benefits with program participants (pregnant, postpartum & breastfeeding women and their children) in our on-site WIC clinic as well as at our satellite site;

Conducting growth, hemoglobin, and blood lead measurements with WIC applicants;

Courteously greeting, directing and responding to incoming phone calls and foot traffic in the WIC clinic;

Implementing program policies and protocols;

Assisting with program outreach; and

Managing supply inventory.

Minimum qualifications must include the items listed under the WIC Aide Knowledge, Skills and Abilities section at the bottom of the page and:

High level working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access;

Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities;

Positive, friendly attitude toward providing high quality service to the public and Department; and

A passion about both public service and a work-life balance.

This Part Time WIC Aide position has a variable schedule and an hourly rate of $18.67/hour. Work hours will vary between 7am and 6pm, Monday through Friday.

WIC Aide Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Ability to use independent judgment, initiative and discretion in performing the duties without direct, immediate supervision.

2. Communication Skills:

 Requires the ability to communicate with individuals to exchange basic information.

 Requires the skills and abilities of conflict resolution and effective listening with handling difficult people and stressful situations.

3. Knowledge of basic principles and practices of office procedures, and use of office equipment including multi-line phone system, scanners, fax machines, and computer equipment.

4. Knowledge of computer software including all Microsoft products and web-based applications.

5. Ability to professionally handle confidential information.

6. Ability to perform anthropometric and hematological (finger poke) measurements accurately.
