Department Summary:Our AI-enhanced Discovery and Decisions department has a need for an Artificial Intelligence Biometrics Engineer with a passion for artificial intelligence (AI) and expertise in biometrics. We are specifically looking for talent in machine learning, and one or more of the following technical areas: biometric identification, deepfake detection, computer vision, image processing, speaker identification, statistical evaluation of biometric systems.As an Artificial Intelligence Biometrics Engineer, you will have opportunities to work on a wide range of problems, leading and working in interdisciplinary teams. Your experience will allow you to:

Apply AI and machine learning techniques to biometric and identification systems.

Design, develop, evaluate, and field AI solutions that inform consequential, mission-critical decisions.

Assess the adequacy and maturity of existing AI-focused R&D programs and shape their technical and programmatic direction.

Identify and lead new R&D opportunities to strengthen the nation’s growing artificial intelligence capabilities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Work in cross-functional teams to develop and implement AI-enhanced biometrics solutions.

Apply modern AI and engineering techniques to develop prototypes based on analysis of workflow and operational needs.

Propose and execute novel, cutting-edge research in Al-enhanced biometrics.

Evaluate Al solutions against sponsor requirements and produce actionable recommendations.

Lead projects or small teams to solve complex problems for our sponsors.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an engineering discipline related to artificial intelligence; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute.

Hands-on experience with machine learning (including deep learning), and one or more of the following technical areas: computer vision and image processing, multi-modal large language models, speaker identification/verification technologies.

Knowledge of and experience with biometrics-specific statistics and analysis.

Ability to articulate challenges in biometrics R&D and identify gaps.

A keen interest in learning about and rapidly responding to new problems across a variety of domains.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate challenging technical concepts to both lay and expert audiences.

Ability to work independently to learn new technologies, techniques, processes, languages, platforms, and systems.

Ability to function as a member of cross-functional teams.

Experience with programming languages such as C and Python.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government clearance (e.g., DoD Secret).

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with multiple biometric identification modalities including fingerprint, face, iris, and speaker identification.

Experience with biometric capture devices.

Ability to integrate biometric technologies into operational environments.

Ability to apply multiple biometric vendor interfaces.

Understanding of NIST biometric performance objectives and studies.

Experience with Linux OS and mobile devices.

Knowledge of distributed computing methods (e.g., RabbitMQ, Zookeeper).

Knowledge of containerization (e.g Docker) and DevOps.

Active DoD Secret clearance (Top Secret highly preferred)
