CONTRACT RATE
$28.90 per hour.

JOB POSTING
Overview
Works independently under the general direction of the Fish & Wildlife Superintendent, Fish and Wildlife Foreman, or Fish and Wildlife General Foreman to assemble, install or remove equipment needed to carry out basic biological tasks. Assists District Biologist in fishery related activities, wildlife habitat projects, maintenance and operation of tools and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the District’s Biologists in performing studies/surveys by tagging, releasing fish to the river, data collection and keeping records on biological studies/surveys performed by the District.
- Install, construct and maintain fish and wildlife habitat projects.
- Assemble, install, maintain wildlife facilities and equipment, or remove equipment needed to carry out biological tasks.
- Operate, monitor and perform daily maintenance, including but not limited to: vehicles, boats, tankers, trailers, pumps, nets, seines, irrigation systems, power tools and equipment (excluding metal fabrication and mechanical or electrical repairs to Fish & Wildlife equipment).
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
- As an essential function, drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

Qualifications
Education
- Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education.
- No higher-level education required. College-level course work or degree in Fish & Wildlife or Natural Resources directly related field is preferred.
Experience
- 1 year experience relating to Fish and/or Wildlife biological studies required. Experience in a hydro utility environment is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Driver's License at hire and WA Driver's License within 30 days of hire
Skills and Abilities
A fully skilled incumbent will have the following knowledge skills & abilities:
- Mechanical aptitude for biological collection systems.
- Requires a strong willingness to learn and understand the principles of fisheries and wildlife research.
- Basic knowledge of local fish and wildlife species
- Must be able to comprehend biological studies.
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must be physically capable of strenuous and demanding outdoor work.
- Able to work with staff biologists and other District personnel in a positive team environment.
- Ability to collect and record data in a timely and accurate manner
- Ability to operate a computer, fax machine, various hand shop tools, and PIT tag scanner.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of P3 and PIT-Tagis; Database software; Internet Explorer; Microsoft -Outlook; Microsoft Excel; and Microsoft Word.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
