CONTRACT RATE

Earn while you learn! Chelan PUD pays $19.00 - $22.35 per hour (based on education, skills, abilities and position)

Effective: April 1, 2024 rate increase to: $19.76 - $23.24 per hour.

JOB POSTING

JOB PURPOSE:

Students have the opportunity to earn while they learn firsthand about the duties and responsibilities of engineers, analysts, and more in an electric utility environment. Learning takes place in a supervised environment and assignments include the following work areas:

Hydro Asset Management: Come be a part of the Generation Asset Management team, collaborating with experts from around the utility, uncovering insights and informing strategic decisions on how to maintain our hydro generating equipment. Support the asset management program by performing data gathering, entry, clean-up, analyses and report preparation. Work Location: Service Center, 203 Olds Station Road.

Energy Conservation: Students are introduced to the field of energy management to improve the energy efficiency of residential, commercial and industrial facilities and equipment. The engineering student intern supports the energy efficiency department’s goal of identifying energy efficiency opportunities, determine their cost effectiveness, helping customers achieve those savings and documenting their actual savings. Student interns may also help the District evaluate various electric vehicle charging systems and programs. Focus in electrical or mechanic engineering. Work Location: Service Building, 203 Olds Station Road.

Hydro Engineering: Assists and supports plant engineers in their daily work, supports preparation of documentation for reliability compliance activities and prepares test procedures for electrical protection systems. Assists with control and protection upgrade projects at Rocky Reach and Rock Island. (Employee IS required to drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District; therefore, a valid Driver's License is required at time of application.) Focus in electrical engineering or Engineering Technology. Work Location: Rocky Reach or Rock Island Dam.

Communications: Produce feature articles about District projects (ex. RI and RR upgrades, plus substantial distribution work), continued archiving of District historical photos and adding to the archive in FileNet of news releases dating back to 1986. The student position will also provide support for general Communications tasks including responding to phone inquiries, writing news releases, proof-reading and helping with outreach. Work Location: Service Building, 203 Olds Station Road.

Information Technology: Assist with documenting current state architecture across various domains such as applications, technology (infrastructure), security, integrations, and data. Work Location: Service Building, 203 Olds Station Road.

Customer Relations: Provide support and backup for customer relations processes, customer policy research, and other business-related projects as needed to support customer utilities. May assist in Customer Utilities as needed. Work Location: Service Building, 203 Olds Station Road.

Transmission & Compliance Engineer: Work on assisting transmission engineers with circuit design, drafting, updating system data documents with equipment ratings and photos, and assisting with various other entry level engineering related tasks. The student will get exposure to power system operations, controls and design.

System Engineering: Assist with data correction, database management of records, fielding equipment and performing minor engineering calculations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or current participation in a Running Start Program and in senior year of high school curriculum (including home-based education). Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. Must be currently enrolled in a bona fide education program (in an accredited college or university), including some prerequisite coursework toward a relevant degree. Valid documentation is required at hire and subsequent quarter/semester enrollments. Must be earning a minimum of 10 credits for each applicable quarter/semester and must maintain a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Must meet the District’s qualifications for Student employment at all times. Students will be terminated when no longer enrolled in a bona fide education program, including immediately upon graduation.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Some student positions require a valid driver's license. If you're selected for one of these roles, you will provide proof of license at the time of accepting an offer.

Pursuant to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, Chelan County Public Utility District #1 conducts background screening of personnel who have access to the District's critical physical and/or cyber assets.
