Job Purpose
An Automotive Technician is responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance of automotive equipment. Duties include performing; emissions inspections, diagnostic testing of vehicles, replacement of worn components and certification of pre owned vehicles. An Automotive Technician can work on brakes, engines, steering and electrical systems as well as trim and interior items. An understanding of engines and transmissions is essential and prior automotive experience is beneficial. A certification from a trade school, technical school or automotive manufacturer is desirable for this position.
Examples of Automotive Technician Responsibilities:
Perform routine automotive maintenance tasks, including oil services, tires rotations/replacements, transmission fluid services, HVAC system services, battery testing/replacement/services and bulb replacements
Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices in automotive diagnostics and repair
Conduct extensive diagnostic procedures to determine the accurate sources of customer problems and provide accurate repair recommendations.
Inspect vehicles according to the state and dealership requirements for emissions and safety.
Perform necessary repairs and perform road tests on vehicles to to verify soundness and accuracy of repairs performed.
Maintain legible and accurate paperwork for both the customer and company records while remaining compliant with state, company and warranty standards.
Clean and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
