Job Summary:

Eastern Washington University is currently seeking reliable and hardworking employees for Custodian 1. As a member of our custodial team, youll play an essential role in supporting a positive learning environment for students, faculty, and staff by keeping our campus clean and well-maintained. Whether its ensuring restrooms are sanitized, floors are spotless, or rooms are set up for campus events, your work will make a real impact on the daily experience of everyone who walks through our campus.Custodial Services maintains a safe, sanitary and clean environment in order to enhance the learning environment on campus. Duties include sanitation of restrooms, floor and window care, general cleaning of building interior and surrounding areas, emptying garbage and recycling and arrangement of furniture for campus events.Please note this posting will be used to fill multiple openings within our growing custodial department.The salary for this position is $37,896 (minimum) - $46,632 per year.In addition to salary, the University offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:

Minimum age of 18.Physical ability to do the job.High School Diploma or GEDMust have the ability to learn institutional custodial techniques and requirements.Must have excellent customer service skills.Must be a team-oriented worker with flexibility to assist fellow coworkers throughout campus.Must be able to work any shifts and any days.Must be able to read, write and understand written documents.Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of maintenance and operation of various custodial equipment is preferred.Prior professional housekeeping or custodial experience preferred.Institutional or industrial custodial experience preferred.

Job Duties:

Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washer, high speed buffers and vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc. This can and will require riding equipment where required.Percent of Time: 20Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies (mix only as directed).Perform cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment (activities such as removing snow or debris, sweeping sidewalks or stairs).Perform maid services in housing if required.May assist in other areas when necessary.Percent of Time: 20Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants; turn out lights.Percent of Time: 2Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.Percent of Time: 15Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms and fixtures that are in said facilities in accordance with established practices and procedures.Percent of Time: 10Clean, dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets and trash containers; empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.Percent of Time: 10Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.Percent of Time: 10Wash interior or easily accessible exterior windows. Cleaning rags and dust mops.Percent of Time: 5Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.Percent of Time: 3Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.Percent of Time: 3Process recycling.Percent of Time: 2

Conditions of Employment:

Workdays and shift times may vary in response to customer needs for special event coverage and/or department needs. Management does retain the right and discretion to modify schedules, building assignments, shifts and/or days for operational purposes.The Custodian 1 position is physically demanding. Successful candidates must be able to pass a pre-placement physical (EWU pays for the physical).Successful candidate must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on frequent basis and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.Position include prolonged periods of standing and walking.Candidates must have ability to climb stairs.Position includes frequently reaching above shoulders and repeated bending, kneeling, pulling and pushing.During the course of university employment this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU.
