Join our team at EWU as a Banquet Chef - Cook 3 where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the culinary landscape of our vibrant campus community! As our Banquet Chef, you will direct and participate in the daily operations of our kitchen, focusing on catering and events while also assisting in daily meal service for campus dining. Your creativity in menu development, expertise in food preparation, and commitment to safety and sanitation will shine as you lead a talented team of food service staff.Qualified individuals should have catering and banquet experience including hot and cold appetizers, trays, lunch events, main courses, and desserts. Banquet Chef Responsibilities:Direct Food Preparation: Collaborate with managers and supervisors to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Menu Development: Create enticing catering and event menus, including special diet options, while producing high-quality dishes with exceptional presentation. Production Management: Establish prep lists, timelines, and assignments to optimize efficiency. Meal Service: Oversee plated meals, buffet service, hors d'oeuvres, and snacks for a variety of campus events. Inventory & Costing: Assist in meal planning and inventory management, while estimating ingredient costs. Training & Guidance: Build training materials and recipe guides to enhance the skills of our kitchen staff. Kitchen Maintenance: Ensure cleanliness and compliance with food safety standards, while monitoring and maintaining kitchen equipment. The salary for this position is $44,580 - $59,568. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Food Handler's Permit Valid Driver's License ServSafe certification upon completion of probationary period. Two years of food service work, including one year of lead experience, or equivalent education or experience. Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two to three years of banquet/catering experience is preferred. Knowledge of large volume cooking.

Conditions of Employment:
This position requires a valid food handler's permit and a valid driver's license. This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends (evenings do include a shift premium). During the course of university employment this position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment. All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs. All new faculty and staff are required to complete DEI/Title IX/Hazing Training after their hire date. This should be completed no later than the first few weeks after hire.
