Construction Site Supervisor: Reports to the Construction Director

Summary:

The Construction Site Supervisor provides overall leadership to construction volunteers for the Habitat for Humanity of Island County construction site in accordance with the directives, policies, and objectives. The Construction Site supervisor accepts the covenant of Habitat for Humanity and is a leading advocate of the affiliate regarding fulfilling the mission and vision statements.

Requirements/Skills:

Must be goal-driven, results-oriented and committed to the organization’s goal to build quality, decent, affordable homes. Must understand the mission, history, values, and goals of our Christian organization and be able to communicate this information to diverse groups of volunteers, sponsors, and the community. Must demonstrate strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. The ability to work effectively as a team member with staff and volunteers from all races, faiths and backgrounds is essential. Must have a strong background in residential home construction, an absolute commitment to job safety and be computer literate.

Responsibilities:

Under the oversight of the Construction Director will oversee all aspects of Habitat for Humanity of Island County’s construction process in a way that utilizes volunteer labor and materials to produce quality homes in a safe affordable manner. Position will include scheduling, planning, procurement, working with subcontractors, working with architects, site management and the unique opportunity of working with volunteers. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

1. Work Experience: 3 years’ experience in new house construction management, or equivalent experience.

2. Aptitudes: Ability to coordinate the construction of single-family dwellings with volunteers and contractors; ability

to supervise and manage staff/volunteers/contractors; ability to lift 75 lbs. or more; ability to operate company

vehicles, construction tools and equipment; interest in working with disadvantaged families.

3. Essential Responsibilities:

a. Coordinate activities of new house construction, remodels, and critical home repairs including but not limited to 1)

purchase of construction materials, tools and equipment, 2) hire subcontractors where needed, 3) pull appropriate

permits and call for inspections, and 4) oversee new house construction.

b. Serve as staff liaison for Construction Committee.

c. Prepare sites for construction, including clearing and foundation work.

d. Assist homeowners in the following activities, including but not limited to 1) monitoring sweat equity hours, 2)

educating homeowners in routine house maintenance, 3) conducting punch list for closing, 4) conducting warranty

work.

e. Coordinate volunteers ranging from beginner to skilled in construction tasks.

f. Organize experienced volunteers to lead work groups.

g. Responsible for quality control, including review of contractor and volunteer work.

h. Responsible for safety at construction site, including but not limited to 1) implementation of emergency plan, 2)

ensure that equipment and tools are in good working condition, 3) train volunteers in safety practices, and 4)

monitor volunteers, including minors, to ensure safe use of tools and equipment according to age, skill, L&I, OSHA

and HFHI regulations.

i. Set project budgets for houses and make adjustments accordingly.

j. Review billing statements and authorize payment accordingly.

k. Executes pertinent responsibilities of fiscal policies, i.e., credit card.

l. Work with board/committee members to obtain in-kind donations of material and services.

m. Maintain order and upkeep of construction warehouse.

n. Represent HFHIC at events, and attend conferences as needed.

o. Supports the mission and programs of HFHIC.

p. Other duties as assigned by the Construction Director and CPO.

4. Physical Demands: Strenuous activity requiring ability to sit, walk, carry, push, pull, lift 75 lbs., climb, and bend.

5. Working Conditions: Exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noises, and other various adverse working conditions

associated with outdoor work.
