The Anacortes Family Center (AFC) is an emergency shelter and intensive program that serves primarily families with children that are exiting homelessness. AFC also provides intensive services and affordable housing. AFC is seeking a Part- or Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Facility Assistant (many housekeeping duties, as described below) to assist in our mission to support clients in our facilities with achieving self-sufficiency and success.
Reports to: Facility Manager
Desired Schedule: 32-40 Hours Per Week; Thursday-Monday 8AM-5PM
Compensation & Terms: NON-EXEMPT; Salary begins at $20-$21 per hour; Full-time employees receive: employer paid health insurance; self-care stipend; 2-weeks of accrued vacation time each year (increasing to three-weeks at 25-months and four weeks at 49th month of employment); 12 days of sick leave accrued; all federal holidays are observed.
Job Overview: Anacortes Family Center's Shelter Assistant helps to ensure that each building on AFC’s campus is clean, sanitized, and supports the organization with running efficiently. The Cleaning Assistant works closely with the Facility Manager, under the direction of the Development Director, however, this person also works collaboratively with each member of our staff. This position also supports cleaning and restocking apartments in the emergency, transitional and affordable housing buildings, as vacancies occur – often with support from organization volunteers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support with cleaning and restocking units, as vacancies occur (often with support from volunteers). Cleaning entails typical housekeeping duties (sweeping, mopping, replacing linens, dusting, etc.)
- Responsible for all basic cleaning in and around common-spaces in our Emergency Shelter (including the HUB of Hope), Family Transformation Center, Launch & Landing Apartments and AFC’s Administrative Building.
- Cleans floors and rooms. including dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, picking up larger objects off the floor, and spot cleaning glass and windows.
- Cleans restrooms, including restocking dispensers, emptying trash, cleaning and sanitizing fixtures, cleaning mirrors, sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning toilets.
Vacuums, empties trash, and replaces liners.
- Sets up, stocks, and maintains cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Transports dirty linens and runs washer and dryer; folds and puts laundry away.
- Performs additional duties, as needed.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
