Pay & Benefits:

$18.39/Hour (Current Washington Determination Wage)

Health & Welfare benefit ($4.57/Hour) pays for health insurance after 60 days of employment. Optional dental/vision.

11 Paid holidays

Paid sick leave – accrues at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked

Up to 2 weeks paid vacation per year after one year of employment

401k matching after one year of employment, up to 4%

Paid Life insurance: $50,000 after 90 days of employment

Longevity stipend with Board of Directors approval

New Leaf is currently hiring several full-time positions on our Grounds Maintenance crew. (Seasonal) This is a day position, Monday-Friday starting at 8AM until about 4:30PM with a half hour lunch. (35-40 hours a week). Saturdays may be required during peak season (April-June).

Potential for Winter layoff Oct-March depending on work load.

Requirements:

A Grounds Maintenance Worker to maintain, repair, and provide service on all grounds to ensure that they are clean, safe, and attractive.

Some prior experience operating lawn mowers and trimmers preferred, but not required

Ability to pass NAS Whidbey Background check at time of hire and for duration of employment. Felonies will prohibit base access.

A clean driving record and valid driver’s license preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Performs mowing, trimming, edging, mulching, aeration and fertilization; weed and brush control; flower bed services; tree and shrub pruning; debris and ditch cleanup.

Maintains all grounds and road shoulders in specified areas.

Picks up and removes all rubbish, debris, and trash, which includes but is not limited to rocks, paper, pine, limbs and other portable objects.

Trims and prunes shrubs, ground covers, native plants, and trees planted in improved grounds according to their natural growth habit for proper health, attractive appearance in the appropriate season.

Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.

Physical Requirements and Essential Functions:

Ability to endure up to 8 hours a day of standing, walking, and working on steep inclines such as hills and un-level ground.

Ability to work in diverse weather conditions (e.g., wet, cold, and hot).

Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs. / push and pull up to 70lbs.

Must have good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and good sense of balance.

Once trained, must be able to operate a 12lb trimmer for up to 6 hours.

Ability to understand and carry out verbal instructions

Must be able to work well with others either in a small group or with the entire crew

Must arrive to the worksite on time

Must not exceed absences past accrued sick leave

Maintains professionalism in both appearance and demeanor, wearing a New Leaf safety vest, a shirt with short or long sleeves, full length pants, and steel-toed boots.

Must wear all required PPE including safety glasses, ear protection, gloves

Training will be provided.
