Position Overview
The Transmission Builder / Reman Technician is responsible for the full disassembly, inspection, and remanufacture in their assigned specialized area of automatic and manual transmissions and transfer cases. The role focuses on craftsmanship, repeatable process execution, and delivering consistent output in a production-based setting. Builders are expected to follow standard operating procedures and work closely with supervisors to ensure on-time completion of assigned units while maintaining quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Disassemble transmissions and transfer cases in accordance with company teardown and inspection procedures.
Inspect and measure components for wear and specification compliance using tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, and calipers.
Select and install replacement parts, including remanufactured subassemblies such as pumps and valve bodies.
Reassemble units using proper torque specs, seal techniques, and company assembly SOPs.
Document build data and record component usage by part number per unit for serialized traceability and warranty support.
Maintain personal workbench and immediate area in clean, organized condition.
Notify Production Supervisor of any discrepancies, missing components, or tooling issues that may impact workflow.
Meet assigned production targets while maintaining quality benchmarks and participating in regular quality checks.
Assist with cross-training as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of hands-on experience building transmissions, transfer cases, or similar mechanical assemblies.
Strong understanding of automotive driveline components and functions.
Proficiency using standard hand tools, computers and precision measuring devices.
Ability to follow standardized procedures and work within a production system.
Must be capable of lifting to 75 pounds and performing repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.
Good communication skills and a team-focused mindset.
Strong attendance and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with both transmissions and transfer cases.
Familiarity with high-volume remanufacturing environments.
Technical training or certification in automotive or diesel technology.
Previous experience using production tracking or parts management systems.
