LICENSED Chief Eng aboard a Longline fishing vessel w/refrigeration

Chief Engineer (must have a current USCG License for Uninspected Fishing Vessels of no more than 2,000hp) with experience in refrigeration and ammonia systems.

You must have a USCG Chief Engineer's license. We are not looking for assistant engineers or chiefs who are unlicensed or do not meet the minimum licensing requirements for our vessel.

The F/V Baranof, owned by Romanzof Fishing Co., is a 183-foot catcher processor/longliner; the vessel fishes approximately 8-10 months out of the year, aside from the shipyard period in Seattle. For the rest of the year, the vessel is in Alaska, fishing either Black Cod, Crab, or Pacific Cod. The vessel converts between the fisheries.

SUMMARY: Responsible for the total maintenance of the vessel. This includes a fish processing factory, an automated longline system, crab fishing desk equipment, sablefish longline pot equipment, hydraulics, ammonia and domestic refrigeration systems, diesel engines, generators, and sanitation facilities, among other items. All officers are responsible for the safety & related items on board the vessel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Directly responsible for maintaining a preventive maintenance program.

Select and train apprentices.

Along with the Master, maintain a plan for fire evacuation and disaster response.

Maintain and coordinate an existing Environmental Health and Safety Program.

Maintain up-to-date records for all state and federal inspections.

Provide training to new and existing employees as needed.

Keep up on technological changes, such as retrofitting machinery to meet today's new laws and efficiency

standards.

Overseas conversions between fisheries of deck and process room equipment.

Responsible for fueling the vessel and maintaining accurate fuel logs.

Perform other duties as requested by the captain.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises one employee in the maintenance facility and indirectly supervises all other employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EXPERIENCE: Minimum current USCG-issued license required: Chief Engineer for uninspected fishing vessels of 2,000 horsepower or less.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety roles, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems effectively and efficiently.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently works in hazardous environments and is often exposed to extreme heat and the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or freezing conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
