Responsibilities:

Performing sea trials, inspections, and other diagnostic tests on vessels and equipment to identify where problems exist and determine which parts need to be repaired or replaced.

Completing preventative maintenance on vessels and equipment, such as performing oil changes, flushing, and replacing fluids, etc

Inspecting internal systems and controls to ensure the vessel or equipment is operating properly and in compliance within state or federal regulations.

Maintaining accurate records and service reporting relating to clients, their equipment, parts, and service history.

Performing regular maintenance and repairs as needed including overhauls and repowers.

Work with the parts department to ensure the proper parts and pieces are ordered and billed to the job.

Listening to clients to learn more about equipment history, potential problems, and the services they would like to receive.

Engaging in learning opportunities to update job knowledge and technical skills.

Mentoring apprentice technicians

Perform shutdown testing for Coast Guard and ABS

Must be able to comprehend and follow general workplace safety practices and standard operating procedures.

Should be able to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands for this position involve the ability to maneuver in a vessel, shipyard, or at customer location as needed to oversee the accomplishment of work. Requires extensive walking and standing; some climbing, crouching, twisting, stooping, sitting, lifting, carrying, overhead reaching, all direction reaching, pushing, pulling, balancing, bending, squatting, simple grasping, crawling, and fine manipulation. Working with the tools pertinent to the technician’s craft involves manual dexterity and fine motor movement and the ability to lift and manipulate a variety of tools. May require some lifting or assistance with heavy equipment. The physical requirements will vary from day to day, assignment to assignment.

Will routinely bend, twist, kneel, walk, climb, and reach for 1-12 hours per day. Will sit, stand, and walk for 1-12 hours per day. Will endure noise, fumes, dust, and inclement weather.

Must be able to lift 1-50 lbs. throughout the day.

Must be able to push or pull up to 75 lbs.

Must be able to safely wear a respirator when needed.

Required Tools:

Standard toolbox (not provided by Hatton)

Basic tool set including 1/4”, 3/8”, and 1/2” drive ratchets, sockets, extension bar, wrenches, screw and nut driver bits, and hex keys.

Additional tools must be purchased by the Journeyman technician as needed.

Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without affecting the health or safety of self or others. Qualifications & Experience needed:

Cummins & John Deere Engine Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred.

5 years of relevant work experience

Valid driver's license.

Aptitude for mathematics and science.

Excellent knowledge of diesel engine components.

Technologically literate and good diagnostic skills.

Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.

Attention to detail.

Good interpersonal skills.

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Good organizational skills.
