Diesel/gasoline Mechanic - Open Until Filled

Position InformationUnder the direction of the assigned Lead Mechanic or Supervisor, the incumbent performs skilled mechanical work on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, performing a variety of mechanical, preventive maintenance and related work to ensure effective readiness and operation of the County's vehicles including but not limited to autos, pickups, trucks, tractors, road maintenance and sewer equipment. Other assignments include servicing and Diagnosing equipment, repairing and mounting tires, perform seasonal checkups, steam cleaning and washing, as well as major and minor tune-ups and adjustments, modifying and fabricating equipment and parts, welding broken items and maintaining tools and the shop area in a clean and orderly condition.Core business hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Weekends and holidays may be required to respond to non-scheduled call-out emergencies. Work alternates and emergency shifts as situations dictate, as well as respond to emergency situations in all weather conditions; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, alone or a part of a team as needed. Occasional standby and call-back may be required.This posting is open until filled. A first review of applications will be done in the week of February 3.Required Education and ExperienceAssociates degree in automotive/diesel technology or related field; ANDtwo years recent experience as a heavy-duty diesel and/or gasoline mechanic; ORFour years of recent experience as a heavy-duty diesel and/or gasoline mechanic.Relevant work experience demonstrating required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for educational requirements. Work experience is essential and cannot be replaced by additional education.Preferred ExperienceMaster Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certificate or equivalent.Experience in electrical/electronics, hydraulics, and hydraulics systems with air or low voltage control circuitsMetal Fabrication, welding and/or machine shop experience.Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for the operation of related equipment with Endorsement N or X and air brake restriction removed.Driving RequirementsThe successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County prior to employment. The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy. This position is categorized as:CDL Driver: Operating County owned vehicles and CDL vehicles. Successful candidate must [have a current or obtain within 12 months of employment] a Washington Class A endorse N or X with air brake restriction removed. Maintain a safe and clean work area.Work over 40 hours in a workweek as required. Incumbents may be:Exposed to other physical hazards out in the field.Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions when dealing with disgruntled or hostile individuals.Essential Job Functions:Perform Preventative Maintenance the County's vehicles and equipment using the tools required for the job.Inspect, diagnose and make repairs to OEM specification on all County vehicles and equipment such as; loaders, graders, dozers, compactors, medium and heavy-duty trucks and accessories, light duty trucks, automobiles using the tools required for the job.Inspect, diagnose and make repairs to Engine, Transmission and Emission systems also air, electric, hydraulic controls and circuits found on County owned vehicles and equipment using the tools required for the job.Upfit new vehicles.
