We are beginning to look for a composite technician to help assemble and finish carbon fiber hydrofoils for the surf and windsports industries. We are a Bainbridge-based small business that started in 2016, but have only recently brought manufacturing in-house and are further scaling production in this quickly growing and evolving sport. As a result, we need help in two primary areas of composites manufacturing. We do not currently do layup or cure of our prepreg materials, but continue source cured components locally. The areas we need help with are:

1. Finishing. This includes sanding, painting, and decals/graphics application on CLASS A surfaces. Using a DA, small grinders, manual sanding.

2. Assembly work. This involves adhesive bonding of structural components. Candidates should have experience with structural adhesives application, using jigs/fixtures, cleaning and trimming methods, and process development.

3. Additional opportunities including mechanical assembly work such as drilling/tapping, screw thread insert installation, and operation of equipment such as laser engravers.

Candidates should be comfortable in a manufacturing environment with extreme focus on quality and details. We are just in initial stages of exploring this role so if interested, please send resume and cover letter regarding your experience and goals for your career and work. More information to be provided based on assessment and fit. The role is diverse, and as such we expect our applicant pool will be. Example backgrounds include but are not limited to composite technicians from aerospace related fields, automotive body repair technicians, marine fiberglass repair and refinishing experts, and even fine finishing of carpentry. We are open to full or part-time help, pay will be commensurate with experience, efficiency, and quality of work.

Our leadership has 20+ years of composites design, analysis, and manufacturing at some of the biggest companies in the world. We are looking for motivated, extremely hard working, and creative team member who wants to help us solve problems and grow. Manufacturing at scale is very challenging, as we are seeing with the failure of many modern companies from electric vehicle makers to the large local aerospace corporations. We are very familiar with the challenges. In order to compete globally, we need to be extremely focused on quality and efficiency with 0% warranty rates and efficient use of our time and resources. We explore automation when possible, but we believe that humans are still better than robots. We are adamant about responsible manufacturing, reducing waste and the environmental impact of what we do. We promise to deliver an opportunity of autonomy, impact, collaboration, and personal and technical growth. The right candidate will have demonstrated interest and experience in manufacturing, impactful innovation through cost reduction and quality improvement, and proven motivation and ethics in the workplace. We are an equal opportunity employer.
