Elliott Bay Book Company is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organized, and experienced individual to join our management team. This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the General manager, working closely with the management team and overseeing booksellers. The ideal person excels in leading and modeling excellence in customer experience while driving sales performance.

A successful candidate for this position will have the skills and experience to succeed in the areas of key responsibilities:

Staff Management

Oversee direct report booksellers to ensure daily success of bookstore operations including customer service, sales and areas of individual responsibilities

Excellent communication skills shown through establishing rapport with direct reports through regular check-in’s and bi-annual evaluations

Ability to identify high potential and work to develop direct reports to Elliott Bay Book Company’s high standards and overall bookstore needs

Team Work

Collaborate with the General Manager and fellow members of the management team while directly supervising booksellers on the sales floor and facilitating their ability to complete tasks in their various roles

Work alongside booksellers - shelving, sales, restocking displays, information desk - leading by example

Customer Service

Uphold and enhance Elliott Bay Book Company’s exceptional customer service experience

Embody and model inclusivity for all

A passion for and knowledge of books that naturally comes through in customer interactions is an added bonus

A knowledge of and dedication to the independent book industry

Qualifications and Skills

Preferred minimum of 2 years of management experience in a retail environment, including opening and closing procedures and cash handling

Experience in book retail and people leadership

Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment including feedback, coaching and development

Enthusiasm, commitment and curiosity

Ability to demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills

A decisive attitude and sound judgment that allows you to manage any customer or employee concern and/or interaction in a calm, timely and respectful manner

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends

Knowledge of Bookmanager a plus
