Job Description:

Title: Yard Store Purchaser

Reports to: Yard Store Manager & Operations Manager

Location: Ballard, Seattle, Washington, USA (On-Site Only, No Remote)

Pay: $26 - $31 an hour, DOE

60-Day Probationary Period

Shift/Schedule:

40 Hours Per Week, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

8 Hour Shift Per Day

8:00AM to 5:00PM Day Shift, Monday to Friday

(1) 1-Hour Lunch Break (Unpaid)

(2) 15-Minute Breaks (Paid)

Job Responsibilities/Activities Summary:

Seaview Boatyard West, located in Ballard, Seattle, WA, is currently seeking a self-motivated, initiative-driven, and teamwork-oriented Yard Store Purchaser to join our experienced crew.

The ‘Yard Store’ is what we call the Boatyard’s inventory storeroom!

Your primary responsibilities include maintaining the inventory required for the completion and support of the Boatyard’s operational activities through sourcing and procurement of optimal products and services. Further ensuring the boatyard makes wise purchasing decisions while optimizing costs, quality, and logistics considerations.

Responsibilities/Activities:

Inventory Management Duties:

Assist Administrative and other Yard Store Staff with daily posting of job materials used by the Yard’s tradesmen from our on-site inventory, primarily using the billing software Dockmaster and Microsoft Excel.

Daily confirmation of the accuracy of technician/tradesmen parts postings from the ‘parts book’.

Includes assistance with identifying, classifying, and quantifying materials used before leaving the Yard Store.

Includes routine upkeep of part numbers, descriptions, and other nomenclature to keep the digital and physical inventory organized and up to date.

Conduct periodic physical inventories, including fixed assets and cycle counts.

Assist in reviewing and recommending Yard Store management best practices to ensure no undue loss or overstocking.

Procurement Duties:

Generate purchase orders as assigned, maintaining accuracy of purchasing, inventory systems, and all associated records.

Accurately receive to inventory all parts and purchases using established inventory management protocols.

Co-manage with the Boatyard’s Yard Store and Administrative Team all procurement activities. Includes:

Establishing and succinctly communicating to management all timelines, lead times, and costs and prices of non-standard/special ordered items.

Maintaining start-to-finish oversight of procurement activities to ensure no undue project delays.

Evaluating tendering processes, vendor performance, payment conditions, contractors, risk assessments, and overall sustainability.

Monitoring vendor and supplier progress on purchase orders and contracts in process. Verifying the quality of service provided and adherence to contract terms.

Where applicable, review purchase terms and conditions and assist in negotiating large vendor purchase orders and contract purchases.

Network and continually learn strategic procurement management.

Routinely liaison with the Boatyard’s tradesmen and other employees in the Boatyard’s facilities to ensure team-wide success.

Includes boarding vessels moored at the dock, those ‘on the hard’ (boats that are out of the water and supported on stands in the yard), and those temporarily hung in travel lift lifting slings.

Includes documenting Boatyard provided tools, PPE, and other safety equipment records.

Other Duties:

Assist walk-in customers and generate Point-of-Sale invoices for non-owner purchases. Seaview Boatyard acts as an impromptu small parts store for the residents in the nearby Shilshole Marina.

Fill walk-in customer propane (LPG) tanks using on-site equipment. Training will be provided.

Provide Front Desk backup to include answering phones, taking detailed messages for later Service Team follow-up, and providing overall customer service in-line with the Boatyard’s Best Management Practices (BMPs).

Perform ‘parts runs’ as necessary using Boatyard provided transportation for the Yard Store Manager or Operations Manager.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Role Requirements:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Must Have Valid Driver’s License

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. These are software tools used daily.

Must Be Able to Safely:

Climb Ladders as Tall as 15 feet

Climb Aboard Boats Moored or Rafted at a Dock

Lift 50 Pounds without Accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:

2+ Years Minimum Experience in Purchasing/Procurement/Buyer Roles.

Experience in Recreational, Industrial, or Commercial Maritime Industries.

Excellent demonstrated soft skills, including analytical and problem-solving skills, adaptability, time management, teamwork, and communication.

An initiative-driven team player who can satisfactorily multitask in an often loud and fast paced environment.

Good understanding of procurement practices and principles.

Good understanding of basic finance and accounting principles.
