We are seeking an experienced, part-time Administrative Assistant (AA) to support us, a couple engaged in several interesting projects, including: creating a residential intentional community, wealth redistribution (philanthropy) within leftist political organizing, and generally navigating complicated personal finances and logistics. This AA may also serve a project management role for additional discrete projects, depending on their background.
This role will interface with residents, guests, and contractors on property in South Seattle, as well as support significant travel and event organizing. Strong, demonstrable administrative skills are necessary, in addition to basic bookkeeping and spreadsheet work, as well as the ability to hold clear boundaries, and create and sustain organizational systems (both physically and in digital space). Attention to detail will be critical for things like filling out governmental paperwork and developing and executing contracts.
Fun research will also be a part of this role, as we are developing a residential community project and seek to better understand how communities in Washington organize themselves. The ability to concisely summarize research is a requirement for this position. This will also mean that you will help support community guests and potential new residents getting their logistical needs met.
Strong candidates will be comfortable with phone, email, and in-person communication. The most time-consuming tasks for this role will likely be general bookkeeping and administrative tasks, coordinating and arranging travel (which will include contact with people from other parts of the country), and project tracking.
COMMITMENT: 12-20 hours/week as a contractor for at least 6 months. The work may expand or contract at that point.
PAY: $40/hour, with no benefits, paid every two weeks
Location - hybrid: While some tasks will be able to be performed remotely, there will also be times when meeting or working in person in South Seattle will be needed.
General tasks:
Paperwork, email and phone calls
Basic bookkeeping and record-keeping
Tracking of tasks, and identifying new, needed tasks
Interfacing with contractors and governmental bodies for non-decision-making needs, and tracking their progress on projects
Handling logistics for events and travel
Developing and maintaining organizational and communications systems for multiple projects
Collecting and depositing rent checks, and other admin tasks with renters
Other tasks as appropriate to the general job description, in agreement with us
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Track record of strong administrative skills, with at least 2 years of prior professional or organizing experience
Comfortable using Google Suite, Trello and/or similar apps
Ability to work well both solo and in collaboration
Ability to self-manage schedule and meet deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Current driver's license and reliable transportation, or the ability to get around on public transit in Seattle
Trustworthy to appropriately handle sensitive and personal information
Basic research skills and ability to summarize into usable reports
Basic bookkeeping and spreadsheet skills
A good sense of humor
Additional skills and background that would be helpful:
Experience managing building and/or grounds maintenance contractors
Comfortable operating in leftist political spaces
Project management experience
Event organizing experience
Meeting facilitation experience
