In our 36th year, OSL Serves is a non-profit organization on the cutting edge of food rescue and redistribution in Seattle & King County with our Food In Motion (FIM) program. Serving those struggling with hunger, OSL is a linchpin in the emergency meal system, and continues to be instrumental in building a system that supports both food equity and sovereignty for those struggling with hunger.
OSL is hiring experienced van/box truck drivers with excellent driving records, a positive, amiable personality, and who will be comfortable being the face of the organization through interactions with donors and clients. A minimum of 3 years delivery driving in cargo vans or larger is required. Applications with less than 3 years experience will not be considered.
Our starting wage for this position is $23.85 hourly. We offer a generous leave package, up to $250 monthly for transportation reimbursement, 401k savings retirement plan, and OSL paid Dental, Vision, and Wellness insurance after 3 months’ employment.
This is a position that requires a good deal of physical exertion.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Valid Washington State Driver’s License (CDL preferred but not required) with great driving record.
Permission to run WA State Driving Abstract from the Department of Licensing prior to hiring.
Ability to use a smart phone or tablet and learn basic functions of company app for time and temperature control.
Ability to work with and close to people of ages ranging from as young as 10 to elderly populations.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, including people experiencing homelessness.
Must have 3-5 years’ experience in commercial driving of large vehicles including cargo vans and box trucks. This is not a training position; candidates must have experience with these vehicles.
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently to prioritize your responsibilities in fast-paced and time-sensitive environment.
Proven ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Must be in great physical shape.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively, and use stairs.
Current Food Handler’s card or ability to get one upon hire.
Shift scheduling flexibility.
Excellent time management skills.
Successfully complete company paid online defensive driving course.
Primary responsibilities include:
Picking up food donations with a company vehicle from various corporate donors in Seattle and King County.
Accurately track weight and temperature of donations at pickup and delivery.
Deliver hot meals to our human service partners with required documentation of temperature chain of custody.
Assisting in kitchens and warehouse/inventory when needed.
Logging vehicle maintenance, reporting issues promptly and ensuring all needed supplies are stocked in vehicle at the end of each shift.
Vehicle cleanliness.
Accurate data entry on mobile electronic equipment.
Collecting all OSL equipment at each delivery.
An Ideal Candidate:
Is expected to lift and lower using proper OSHA standards (gloves and weight belts provided). Drivers load and carry 1,000+ pounds of donations per day (this can vary and is unpredictable).
Excellent communication skills, especially with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to convey information to contract staff who are navigating different scenarios involving hungry and homeless populations. Drivers are supportive, positive, and cooperative. OSL practices and promotes non-violent and deliberate communication.
A strong aptitude to maintain clear decision making in fast-paced and changing environments. Working quickly and prioritizing deliveries based on your time-sensitive commitments to contracts.
Ability to work independently as well with a team ethic; willing to provide assistance to fellow co-workers and volunteers as needed.
Excellent attendance and attention to work ethic a must - Tech savvy is a plus.
