Position Overview
We are looking for a positive, curious, mission-driven Maintenance Associate to join our team. This role collaborates across all PNA departments and buildings to ensure a safe work environment for everyone.
This 20-hour position is to be a scheduled on-site position which requires five scheduled 4-hour shifts M-F. There is flexibility on shift times.
Position
The main goal of this position is to keep equipment and buildings in excellent condition, with emphasis on safety, and build strong relationships with staff, vendors, tenants and guests.
Responsibilities
The maintenance associate will be responsible for work orders assigned by the facilities director with emphasis on:
General grounds
o Exterior debris removal.
o Warm months: Mow, weed, prune, water grounds.
o Cold months: Ice melt and snow removal during winter months as needed.
o Spring/Summer, assist farmers market staff.
General interior
o Working at all PNA owned/rented spaces to include but not limited to Greenwood Senior Center, Whittier Kids and both buildings at the Phinney Center.
o Inventory control: weekly janitorial supplies, confirming delivery company drop sheet vs inventory match, to include adjusting reorder points.
Qualifications
This position requires experience in commercial grounds maintenance, and operating skills with commercial mowers, edger, chipper, blowers and line trimmers, able to comfortably work with/on ladders and scaffolding, understanding of basic tool operation. Other desired qualities are attention to detail and good communication skills. A federal and state criminal background check is a condition of employment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and carry/operate the equipment.
Compensation
This is a 20 hour per week position rate ($24-$26) to be based on experience. Benefits include: 401(k) plan with employer match; a free PNA household membership with reduced costs for classes and room rentals; 3 weeks personal time off the first year, increasing annually; and 8 paid holidays. Headquartered in a former elementary school, the PNA has developed an active community center that not only serves as a focus of the Phinney/Greenwood neighborhood but offers programs and activities that reach far beyond the immediate neighborhood, at four different sites in Phinney, Greenwood, and Ballard. Current programs include two preschool cooperatives, a licensed preschool and school age program at Whittier Elementary School, a hot meal program, the Greenwood Senior Center, PNA Village, a tool lending library, a business membership program, family memberships, room rentals, and countless special events that bring friends and neighbors together. We co-sponsor a summer farmers market, weekly folk music concerts, and other community events. The PNA serves over 50,000 people each year, has 70 staff, 1,100 volunteers, and an annual budget of $4.6 million.
