The Powder Coat Technician is responsible for the application of powder finishes to metal parts and materials with a handheld powder gun. Responsible for hanging parts and materials to be powder coated, setting up and operating the powder coat equipment to ensure complete powder coverage, and organizing carts of parts and materials. Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
Role and Responsibilities
Read work orders for color and customer job specifications
Prepare parts for coating
Load and maneuver 150+ pound wheeled carts
Follow all principles and practices of powder coating application
Operate all coating equipment including guns, hoppers, and booth collection systems
Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects
Determine paint flow, and coating quality by performing visual inspections
Bake parts at appropriate temperatures within time limitations
Ensure that all components are produced/coated, efficiently, and are consistent with company quality and customer expectations
Maintain flow of jobs throughout the day to ensure effective progress of jobs while adapting to quickly moving priorities
Ensure safety guidelines are being met to assure a safe work environment
Load and unload parts or materials
Identifying powder inventory needs and ordering powder
Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment
Promote a safe and clean work environment by cleaning work area at end of day
Work productively as a team member with other employees
Performs other tasks as required
Qualifications and Requirements
Trade School Degree or 1-2 years of powder coating experience preferred
Knowledge of basic mechanics
Knowledge of color matching
High attention to detail and self-motivation skills
Must be able to speak, read and write English
Regular attendance is a necessary essential job function
Working Conditions:
High shop temperatures in summer months
Exposure to inclement weather during fall and winter months
High level of dust
Exposure to specific contaminants throughout work should be expected infrequently
Exposure to loud noise levels
Steel toe or composite toe shoes recommended
Paint suit and mask are required to be worn while in the powder booth
Physical Demands:
Must have full range of motion and be able to kneel and bend for extended periods as jobs require
This position requires continual use of your hands, considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as
climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials.
This position requires long periods of standing
This position requires lifting and maneuvering up to 50lbs. without physical restrictions and up to 100lbs. with assistance of lifting
equipment or other team members
This is a 40 hour per week job with occasional mandatory overtime
