Medical Receptionist/Ophthalmic Technician

We are seeking a candidate to fill a full time position at a busy private practice ophthalmology clinic in Tacoma, WA. The position is a hybrid role as a front-desk administrative assistant and ophthalmic technician. Individuals who enjoy working with people, are able to multitask, and have a flexible personality are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities while working at the front desk include:

Answering phones

Scheduling patient appointments

Checking in patients

Registering new patients

Managing record requests

Obtaining insurance authorizations

Receiving and recording payments

Responsibilities while working as a technician include:

Checking patients

Taking patient medical histories

Conducting basic eye exams

Collecting patient histories

Obtaining imaging

Entering information into an electronic health record system

Required skills:

Ability to handle a multi-phone system

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to remain calm and respectful in high pressure situations

Typing speed of 50 words per minute or greater

Strong computer skills

Ability to learn new programs quickly

High situational awareness

Self-motivated to complete necessary tasks

Preferred skills:

Previous experience with fluorescein angiography imaging.

Education:

High school or equivalent is required.

Higher education or certifications (COA, COT, MA, CNA, etc.) is preferred, but not required.

Experience:

One year or more year in an office setting and/or receptionist role is required.

Experience working in a medical office is desired.

Prior experience working in an ophthalmology office as a receptionist and/or technician is highly desired.

On the job training will be provided to fill skill gaps for a candidate highly proficient in most areas.

Other considerations:

All staff are required to have proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status.

Salary:

$25.00 per hour during 90 day probationary period.

Increase in pay after the probationary period will be based on performance and previous experience and skills.

Job Type: Full-time
